A Beginner's Primer by Professor Al Fichera
Introduction to the Internet
LAB 1a Saving Web Page Links
Building a Links Frames Page

To help you maintain your “LINKS” developed in this class, I have created a simple Frames page for you to use. Follow the simple instructions provided and you’ll be able to keep your links with you on a floppy disk, available anytime you are online.

You will need an empty floppy disk to use for the “A” drive. This disk should be with you at all times so you can record your activities in this class.

To “own” the files I've listed for you below, do the following:
  • Click the links provided below and the file will open for you.
  • Select View” from the Main Menu at the top of the screen.
  • Select “Source” from the drop-down menu that appears.
  • “NotePad” should open as the file viewing editor if you are using Internet Explorer.
  • Choose File” and then “Save As...” to save the file to your floppy disk. Be sure to save all the files in the same place on your disk.

There are seven files to start with, however, you will delete three when you are ready. All the important files can be download here:
link-toc97.html, this is the one file really important to you.
link-header97.html you’ll place your name in this file then forget it.
link-cis97.html, no need to touch this important frames file.
link-main97.html. no need to touch this placeholder file.

The files you’ll eventually delete can be download here:
     link-lab1.html,
     link-lab2.html, and
     link-lab3.html.

The only one you’ll use on a regular basis will be “link-toc97.html”.

These are the steps to do once you download and own the files:

  • If you are reading this as a handout, locate the folder on the Internet at: http://profal.com/h-assign-lab1a.html
locally on the Sierra College’s network and/or their Web address: http://cslabs.sierra.cc.ca.us/
  • Open NotePad for your Text Editor.
  • Locate the file called: link-header97.html, this is the file that appears at the top and has your name. After you place your name where told to, you can forget this file.
  • Locate the file called: link-toc97.html, this is the file that you always need; it will be where you place your links to the Web pages.
  • Follow the instructions given to you in the “source code”on that page to be able to create your personal links page.

I will check your LINKS page online weekly, it is an important part of your grade.
