Introduction to the Internet
INFOSEEK Creating Tables of Data
College Programs for Studing Abroad

You can use the World Wide Web to find information about colleges and universities all over the world. Many college sites consist of hundreds of pages containing information about courses, prerequisites, professors, student groups, and even dormitory accommodations. Some pages even allow you to register online. The purpose of this exercise is to explore some college sites that offer overseas study programs.

Search for Study Abroad Programs

There are several Web sites that contain databases of Study Abroad programs. We will begin our search for one of these databases by first displaying the Infoseek search page and then selecting the Infoseek College topic.

Identify a Program

You will display the Studying Abroad page in the Peterson’s Education Center site and explore its links to an Archaeology program in Belize. You will then display the site of the college that sponsors the program.

Using a Comparison Table

You will use a comparison table made in Microsoft Word that includes heading for the type of information you need to gather five Study Abroad programs. To facilitate you in this matter, I have created a table attached to this document that you will use to place your information. The Word table will allow you to type directly into the individual cells or use a copy and paste method.

You must have the table up and running in one window and the Internet running in another window, this will allow you to enter information as you receive it.

Gather Information and Print the Comparison Table

Next you will gather information about each program and copy it into the table. You will be looking for and recording these items: The Program; Field of Study; Field Trips; Requirements; Cost; and University URL. A sample of what is expected of you is shown directly below. (Note: This example will not be acceptable as one of your answers.)
