about your ancestor. The more information you include with your query, the better the chance of someone else being able to "link up". If you don't know dates, then estimate a time period ("1760's"; or abt "1810", etc.); in other words, if it is obvious they were born in the late 1800's, then say so. If you know these facts, be sure and include:
One-line queries usually don't get much response simply because there isn't enough information for anyone to make a connection so try to provide as much data as you can. Please limit your query to about one-half of a regular typed page.
Remember -- someone else might not know about your ancestor but they may know about a brother or sister and thus be able to help you make a connection.
Members of the Hill Family Club may post messages free for an indefinite period.
Non-members may post a message for a brief period.

Searching for ancestors and info on R. T. HILL (7 May, 1818 -- 4 Aug, 1890). His name may have been Reuben or Russell Terrell. He mar. TABITHA (Sep, 1822 - 17 Apr, ?). They are buried at Crumbly's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Jefferson Co., Al. Their ch included ROZZELA CAROLINE HILL ("Carrie; Carey") (10 Jan, 1866), RUSSELL HILL; ELIZABETH HILL, MARY HILL, SARAH HILL ("Sallie") and CINDY HILL. Also possibly WILLY and JOHNNY. A deadly hereditary blood disease has been traced through Tabitha, called hemocromotosis (sp ?). The disease is controllable. Men with the disease often die in their fifties and women after their menstrual cycles cease. My grandmother, mother, uncle and a cousin died with the disease. Does anyone know where Tabitha came from? It is thought our Hill branch came from Rome, Floyd Co., Ga. Several families buried near R. T., including the Crumbly's, Shoemaker, Varnan and Malone Ragsdale did come from Floyd Co.

Searching for ancestors of my gggrandfather NATHANIEL DAVIS HILL (b 28 Jul 1825) moved to Stokes County, NC in 1838 or 1839 (I do not know where he moved from), and served in the War for Southern Independence. He served under Captain James W. Barnes in Co. H, 23 VA Battalion. He fought in the battle at Drop Mountain in Pocahontas County in West Virginia (it was Virginia at the time). He was captured there on 6 Nov 1863 during the retreat and was taken to Ft. Delaware where he was imprisoned until 14 Sep 1864. He was released to a hospital in Richmond after the war and after being treated and released from the hospital, was said to have walked back to Stokes County. He mar TAMSON DIXIE TERRILL Aug 1847, dau of JULIUS TERRILL and MARY ("Polly") BAYNES DAVIS. He was the oldest son of JAMES RESTON HILL, (a Primitive Baptist preacher and veteran of the War of 1812) and his wife SOPHRONIA M. LEAKE. In 1875, Nathaniel moved his family of 12 children to Patrick Co., Va. near the Little Dan River. They built a two-story home there off State Road 663 in what is now Claudville, VA. Nathaniel's 9th child, JESSIE MANNING HILL, was my great grandfather (b 13 May 1859 -- 2 Sep 1937), mar 8 Sep 1888 MARY ALICE CRANFORD (b 7 Feb 1868 to WILLIAM ELVIRA CRANFORD and SUSAN E. DUNKLEY. Do you have any info on my ggg grandparents? I do not know where they lived, when they were born, died or where they were buried. I would like to be able to trace them back to Europe. My great-grandparents (Jessie and Mary Alice Hill) had 14 ch, and my grandfather (Jessie Hill's 3rd oldest son, William Robert Hill) had 10 ch, so there are lots of us in Patrick Co.,, VA and surrounding areas.
