JOEL MATHIS JOHNSON
Retired Lumber Worker

CATAULA, Ga.--Joel Mathis Johnson died at his home here 14 May, aged 78.

Joel was born 23 Apr., 1920 in Cataula and lived here all his life. He was the son of Henry Mobley Johnson and Tiny Alma Lawson. He was retired from the lumber business.

Burial was in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Cartledge Johnson; daughter Catherine Sue Johnson White, Columbus; sister, Elizabeth Johnson Hambrick, Cataula; grandchildren Amanda Sue White and Adam Douglas White, both of Columbus.

Burial was in Duncan Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are a sister, Mary W. Metts, Harleyville.

EUNICE LEE JOHNSON
St. Pauls, NC Homemaker

ST. PAULS, NC-- Eunice Lee Johnson died at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton 22 Feb., age 88.

Eunice was a homemaker.

Burial was in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.

Survivors include sons, Larry B. Johnson, St. Pauls and Jerry Johnson, Lumber Bridge; sisters, Mary Toney, Augusta, Ga. and Evelyn Johnson, Alamo, Ga.; one grandson.

CORA BLACKMAN JOHNSON
Widow of Theodore Johnson

BENSON, NCCora Belle Blackman Johnson died 25 May at Raleigh Community Hospital, aged 86. Cora was born in Johnston County, NC, daughter of Susan Ellen Johnson and Walter Vinson Blackman. She was the widow of Theodore Johnson.

Burial was in the Blackman Family Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Melonie Taylor, Raleigh; grandchildren Susan Taylor, Durham John Taylor and Jill Taylor, both of Raleigh.

ALBERT S. JOHNSON Jr.
Retired Deputy Fire Chief

CHESAPEAKE, VA.--Albert S. Johnson Jr. died at his home here 7 Mar., aged 77.

Albert was born in neighboring Portsmouth. He was the widower of Marie W. Johnson. Albert retired as deputy fire chief for the city of Chesapeake Fire Department. He was a member of the Great Bridge Masonic Lodge #257, York Rite Bodies, Kedive Temple and the Chesapeake and Suffolk Shrine Clubs.

Albert served in the US Navy during World War II.

Burial was in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Survivors include sisters, Katherine Johnson Jenkins and Alice Johnson Beasley, both of Portsmouth.

HOOKS K. JOHNSTON Sr.
Retired Aircraft Engineer

BEAUFORT, SC-- Hooks K. Johnston Sr. died at his home here 7 May, aged 90.

Hooks was born in Lurray, SC, son of Coy Johnston and Corinne Kelley. He attended Carlisle School and Clemson College, now Clemson University. He graduated from Boeing School of Aeronautics. He designed several airplane models, which are now in the South Carolina State Museum. He was a retired aeronautical engineer and ge eral foreman for Pratt and Whitney at United Aircraft. He was a member of the QX-5 Club.

Burial was in Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Smith Johnston; son Hooks K. Johnston Jr., Andover, Mass.; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

DALE M. JOHNSON Jr.
Owner of Construction Company

SAVANNAH, Ga.--Dale M. Johnson Jr. died here at Hospice Savannah 6 June, aged 45.

Dale was a lifelong resident of Savannah. He was a graduate of Jenkins High School and earned a bachelors degree in architectural engineering at Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Ga. He founded Dale Johnson Construction in 1976. Dale was a past president of the Home Builders Association of Savannah and a member of the State Board of Homer Builders Associations. He was the coach of the Dale JohnsonOs, the Southside Raiders Twisters Baseball team. He was also a member and deacon of First Christian Church and past presidentof First Christian Church MenOs Club.

Burial was in Bonaventure Cemetery here.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Hoover Johnson, Savannah; daughter, Abbe McColl Johnson, Savannah; son Matthew Pritchard Johnson, Savannah; and brother, Mark Johnson, Savannah.

JAMES E. JOHNSON
Florida Truck Driver

SEFFNER, Fla.--James E. Johnson of Seffner died 28 May at his home here, aged 76.

James was born in Geneva, Ala. He moved to the Tampa area in 1942. He was a truck driver and a member of Jehovah's Witness Seffner Congregation.

Survivors include his wife, Cassie M.; daughters Joyce DeLong, Tampa and Marie Stanley, Calhoun, Ga.; sons Fred Johnson, Plant City and Joe Edward Johnson, Seffner; sister, Betty Johnson, Tampa; brothers Eugen Johnson and Harold Johnson, both of Dover, Horace Johnson, Bushnell and Donnie Ray Johnson, Treasure Island; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

EVELYN JOHNSON PRIDGEN
Retired From American Legion Auxiliary

RALEIGH, NC--Evelyn Johnson Pridgen of Raleigh died 3 June at the Shaire Center in Cajah's Mountain, NC.

Evelyn was born in Wake County, daughter of the late Neal H. and Callie Denning Johnson. She was retired from the North Carolina American Legion Auxiliary headquarters in Raleigh after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garldnad Fred ("Jack") Pridgen Jr. She was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church.

Burial was in Raleigh Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Winnifred Ann Amann, Hickory, NC; sister, Mildred Fish, Raleigh; granddaughter, Windy Amann Johnson, Hickory; and grandson, Nicholas Charles Amann, Hickory.

VESTER COLEMAN JOHNSON
West Virginia Miner

FRANKLIN, Va.-- Vester Coleman Johnson died in Southampton Memorial Hospital 20 Feb., aged 85.

Vester was born in Bramwell, West Vir- inia and was a resident of that area most of his life until moving to Franklin, Va., where his son is minister of High Street Methodist Church.

Vester was a graduate of West Virginia Business College in Bluefield. He was a retired miner. He had also worked since retire- ment as a shipping clerk for Foremost Dairies.

He was a member of Elizabeth B. Jones Methodist Church in Bramwell and an affiliate member of High Street Methodist Church in Franklin. He was active in church work and held offices in both the Franlin church and his hometown as well as the district organization of the United Methodist Men.

Burial was at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield and near Bramwell.

Survivors include a son, Rev. Edward C. Johnson Sr., Franklin; grandchildren, Rebecca Kaye Gostomski, Edward C. Johnson II, James Alfred Johnson, Timothy Allen Johnson and Karen Danette Whipple; 11 great grandchildren; 1 gg grandchild.

RUTH JOHNSON
Sampson County, NC Homemaker

ROSEBORO, NC-- E. Ruth Johnson died at her home near here 29 Mar., age 77. Ruth was a homemaker.

Burial was in Parkersburg Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters Elizabeth Peterson and Sarah L. Johnson, both of Roseboro and Valerie Marshall, Spring Hope; sons David N. Johnson, Garland, Marvin ("Cook") Johnson, Sanford and Scott Johnson, Autryville; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.

MARION W. ("Jack") JOHNSON
WW II Army Veteran

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-- Marion W. ("Jack") Johnson died 16 Mar., aged 85.

Jack was born 13 Apr., 1922 , son of Ivy Rushing Johnson and Flora Lavicie Sinclair. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was the manager of Peace Builders Supply in Magnolia, Ark. for many years.

Jack was married to Clara Mae Story from Nashville, Ark. After her death, he married Ruth Babbs from Magnolia who also preceded him in death.

Burial was in Nashville, Ark.

Survivors inlcude a daughter, Mana Privitt, Magnolia; sons James R. ("Rusty") Johnson, Little Rock and Charles Young, Fruita, Colo.

DELWYN N. JOHNSON
Tobacco Auctioneer

MARION, SC-- Delwyn N. Johnson died 22 Mar. in a Florence hospital at age 75.

Delwyn was born in Marion, the son of Leroy Chancey Johnson and Sarah E. Smith. He was a tobacco auctioneer. Delwyn was a member of First Methodist Church here. He was the widower of Sara Tanner.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Gwendolyn Johnson Edwards and Sunee C. Johnson, both of Marion; sisters, Earle Spangler, Charleston, Hazel Johnson Grainger, Mullins, Geneva Johnson Pederson and Opal Johnson Spears, both of Florence; brother, Jack Johnson, Darlington; 2 grandchildren.

LETA GOLD JOHNSON BENTON
Retired School Teacher

BENSON, NC-- Leta Gold Johnson Benton died at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield d27 May, aged 88.

Leta was born 26 May, 1910 in Johnston County, daughter of Charles Johnson and Esther Smith. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Benson High School. She graduated from Greensboro College and became a teacher in the Johnson County schools. She founded the library at Four Oaks School. Leta was a member of Benson Methodist Church.

Burial was in Benson City Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Howard B. Benton; daughter, Suzanne B. Cook, Benson; sisters, Ernestine Parker, Mable Nicholls, Medlin Nicholls and Muriel Nicholls, all of Benson; grandson, Ben Cook.

THOMAS J. JOHNSTON Jr.
CPA and Masonic Leader

CATAULA, Ga.--Thomas J. Johnston of Cataula died at his home here 9 May, aged 87.

Thomas was born 20 Sep., 1910 in Chattanooga, Tn., son of Thomas J. Johnston Sr. and Minnnie Trotter. He was a retired certified public accountant. Thomas was a leader in Masons. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Georgia, Grand Chapter of Georgia, Grand Council of of Royal and Select Master Masons of the State of Georgia, Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Georgia and Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, S. J. He was also a member of Sigma Delta Kappa fraternity and attended Cataula Methodist Church.

Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Chattanooga.

Survivors include his wife, Iller Trew Johnston; daughters Gail Wick, Atlanta, Vivian Keefe and Amelia Moreland, both of Cataula; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

JOHNNIE WRIGHT JOHNSON
Dies in NC At Age 79

WHISPERING PINES, NC--Johnnie Frances Wright Johnson died at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC 6 June, aged 79.

She was a homemaker. Burial was in Parkton Cemetery in Parkton, NC.

Survivors include a son, Dr. David W. Johnson, San Antonio, Tx.; sister, Bonnie Gentry, Roxboro; and 2 grandsons.

MINA WISE JOHNSON
Widow of Business Leader

HOUSTON, Tx.--Mina Wise Johnson died here 4 June, aged 91.

Mina was the widow of Willis, Tx. business leaderr and developer Charles A. ("Charlie") Johnson. She had lived in Willis most of her life until her home was destroyed by fire in 1995. She spent her remaining years at Panorama Village. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Willis.

Burial was in Willis Cemetery.

Survivors include a dauthter, Eve Elmore, Panorama Village; brother, Turner Wise, Willis; grandsons Kyle Elmore, Panorama Village and Bubba Elmore, Willis; great granddaughters Jessica, Julia and Sarah.
