I am seeking info on the Riley that was with Daniel Boone when he was exploring Kentucky. I believe his name was JOHN RILEY. Boone went back to Virginia but Riley stayed at a fort in southeast Kentucky. I'm sure that is where the Riley's of Kentucky got started. I am FRANK RILEY son of STEVE RILEY, grandson of ROBIN RILEY and great grandson of SQUIRE RILEY, all of Southeast Ky. That is as far back as I can go. I'm not related to the Riley's of South Carolina, as far as I know, that is where I live now.

My grandfather (7 times removed) was RICHARD RILEY Sr. (b bef 1750..believed to have died 1778 in Charlestown, Frederick Co., Va.); mar MARGARET MUNK (b. abt 1755 -- 25 Jan 1829 in Beallsville, Oh.); ch: RICHARD Jr., (25 Sep 1778 in Charlestown, Fredrick Co., Va.). Family info says Richard Sr. died on the same day Richard Jr. was born. I have excellent records stored on PAF files on Richard, the son, down to myself. However, the fathers ancestry is a blank wall. His widow died in January 1829 in Oh. where the son settled. Unverified reports say the father was in the military. In addition there are reports of the widow's legal action to claim large land holdings which were denied (I have NOT seen any old legal papers). I'm wondering if Richard Sr. could have been a Royalist and on the wrong side in the revolution? This could be the reason so little is known about him.
