Seventh Day Baptists & Covenants

Covenant of the

Abundant Life Seventh Day Baptist Church

For the glory of Christ Jesus, in the service of our fellow men;

Article 1. We agree to accept the Holy Scripture as our only rule of faith and practice, for all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that we may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(Matthew 7:24-27, John 12:46-50, Acts 17:10-12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, James 1:19-27)

Article 2. We agree, according to our measure of faith, to walk in faith that shows itself by love, loving one another as Christ loved us and our neighbor as ourselves.
(John 13:34, 15:9-14, 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13, 1 John 3:10-19, 4:7-21)

Article 3. We agree to keep the Ten Commandments, God's eternal moral law, including the seventh day Sabbath, a sacred time, a gift of God to all people, instituted at creation for worship and rest.
(Exodus 20:3-17, Deuteronomy 5:6-21, Matthew 5:19, Romans 2:17-29, 8:1-4, 1 Corinthians 7:19, James 2:8-12, 1 John 3:4-9, 5:1-3)

We also agree to love God with our whole heart, soul and might and our neighbor as ourselves. We agree with Jesus and the Apostles that this fulfills the spirit of the Mosaic Law and that we are no longer bound by the letter of the Mosaic laws.
(Galatians 5:1-7, 6:15)

Article 4. We agree to cherish liberty of thought as an essential condition for the guidance of the Holy Spirit; therefore we agree to refrain from judging one another in areas of doctrine and conduct that fall outside the limits of this covenant and are not addressed by Scripture. Doctrine and conduct outside the limits of this covenant are to be determined by diligent study of the Word of God under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

We acknowledge that the Seventh Day Baptist statement of belief is an accurate statement of views generally held by us, but is not a binding creed.
(Romans 14:9-13, 1 Corinthians 3:4-11, 17)

Article 5. We agree, to the best of our ability, not to forsake the assembling of ourselves, to meet together on the Sabbath and at such other times that the church meets. In addition, we promise to faithfully bear the burdens and expenses of the church as God may give us the ability and faith. We also agree to resolve all disputes and offenses according to Christ's rule and the order of the Gospel, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
(Matthew 18:15-20, Galatians 6:6-10, Hebrews 10:25)

We joyfully enter into this covenant with one another in the love and fear of God.

Amen
