6/07/99 UPDATE
The economic reports came in, the Market Leading Technology Stocks corrected, more reports came in, and the stocks came back very strongly on Friday. The market absorbed the news of the Fed's likely raise in interest rates.

This week will be interesting due to a number of large technology conferences. Specifically, Deutsche Banc Alex Brown and PaineWebber may have a positive effect on institutional investors.

Overall, its still a good time to be buying the Market Leading Technology Stocks for the long term, if you have guts. The NASDAQ index has basically been flat since February and many of these stocks are off their yearly highs considerably.

Often I hear people mention that they don't buy stocks due to their high price. They would rather purchase a $25 stock than a $100 stock because they "can afford it". This common misperception often leads to investors not buying higher quality Market Leading Technology Stocks and instead buying more risky small and medium cap stocks. The bottom line is a percentage gain for a $100 stock is the same as a percentage gain for a $25 stock. For example, you buy 40 shares of Stock A for $25 per share. Your total investment is $1,000. You buy 10 shares of Stock B for $100 per share. Your toal investment is $1,000. Two years later Stock A is worth $50 per share and stock B is worth $200 per share. Your net gains are the same. Yes, it's true you own less shares in Stock B vs. Stock A but your profit is the same.

Last week I took Disney off my list of Market Leading Technology Companies. Perhaps Michael Eisner, Disney's CEO has been reading my thoughts because the NY Times reported they are considering a spinoff of their web properties. This may buoy their stock price short term, if confirmed.
