It's time for guts. There are two companies that are very attractive right now. Microsoft and AOL.
Microsoft is currently at 77.5, well off its 52 week high of 95.5. Bill Gates and company have been very busy over the past 6 months positioning Microsoft to continue its dominance well into the future. For example, it made a deal with ATT to put its Windows CE operating system on cable boxes. Cable boxes represent the future of broadband internet access. It made a $650 million investment in NEXTEL , a wireless firm to have influence over wireless data access. It will provide information from its MSN internet portal to Nextel's wireless customers. It also made substantial investments in 2 of Europes leading cable companies. Lastly, it recently launched it's Office 2000 desktop applications, which has been getting good reviews and will ensure their cash cow continues to grow. For the long term, you can't go wrong buying Microsoft now.
AOL recently plunged to 90.5, almost half of its 52 week high of 175.5. AOL has been hard hit with the rest of the internets. AOL's new subscriber growth rate continues to soar, as well as its revenues and income. AOL's broadband strategy (its plans to provide high speed access to AOL) is starting to solidfy and today announced successful tests with GTE's cable system in Florida to prove high speed cable access to AOL is cost effective. AOL also is working with Bell Atlantic to provide high speed access over traditional phones lines via DSL technology. Lastly, AOL has been making real progress in international markets. Today they announced a 10% stake in China.com. AOL is a great buy right now.
