NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!

William is the hero of NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, and my son, William, waited a long time for this book. My first picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!, was published in 1987. I made my first son, Walter, the star of that book. He was four at the time. On the dedication page, I also mentioned Walter's baby brother, William, who had just been born--too late to be included in the story or illustrations. As the years went by and William grew older, once in a while he would ask me, "Hey, Dad, when are you going to put me in a book?"

Normally I don't set out to write about a certain subject or issue. I simply allow ideas to fall out of the sky and let them take me where they will. But writing a book specially for William was different. This was more like an assignment and the clock was ticking! He was growing up!!! More years passed. Every so often William would ask again,"Are you making my book next?" The pressure was building. Finally, when William was nine years old, it occurred to me to try a sequel to NO JUMPING ON THE BED!, this time with William going down through the same building, bumping into some of the same people (and a few new ones) in his bathtub. William is delighted to now have his own book after such a long wait.
