George McDonald, born in Scotland, migrated with his first wife, _____ Gordon, in 1772 on the Jennet, landing at Bladensburg, MD. They settled on the Virginia side of the Potomac, where they worked off their passage. Around 1782, they migrated to the frontier of Washington County, PA, settling in Chartiers Twp. In 1792 they purchased a farmstead in Findley Twp. After his wife's death, George married Barbara McDonald, the daughter of William McDonald and Elizabeth Douglas [see McDonald(III)] who was born circa 1762 in Scotland and who likely died before her husband. George died on 25 November, 1811.
Major William McDonald, born circa 1783, possibly in Washington County, PA, married Elizabeth Frazier, born circa 1787, the daughter of Andrew Frazier and Christiana Ross [ see Frazier]. William grew to manhood in Finley Twp., Washington Co. and took up farming there. His rank probably was from service in the militia. William and Elizabeth were early members of the Three Ridges Presbyterian church at West Alexander, PA. He died on 1 August, 1829 of dysentery and she followed on 4 August, 1845. Both are buried at the Three Ridges churchyard.
Nancy Ross McDonald was born on 19 August, 1816 at Finley Twp., Washington Co., PA. On 18 June, 1840, she married William Orrin Blaney, the son of Charles Blaney and Anne Potter, born on 30 April, 1813 at Washington Co. Nancy and William migrated to Kansas and farmed. He died on 20 April, 1859 near Lawrence, KS. Nancy eventually moved to California where she died on 22 January, 1902. She is buried at Mt. View Cemetery in Fresno.
Andrew McDonald was born on 4 June, 1819 at Finley Twp., Washington Co., PA. He attended Washington College in Washington, PA, graduating in the Class of 1850. He became a teacher near Lexington, KY, then practiced law at Morgantown, VA. He served in the Virginia Legislature and was on the Board of Visitors at the University of Virginia. He became a state senator in the Kansas Territory, serving from 1855 through 1857. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the Confederate Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Andrew married Jane V. Gay, daughter of William Gay, on 6 September, 1849. After the war, Andrew and Jane migrated to Florida where he died on 21 May, 1896 near the now defunct town of McDonald.
John McDonald was born on 15 March, 1788 at Chartiers Twp., Washington Co., PA and reared on the family homestead in Finley Twp. He married Margaret Byers, daughter of Thomas Byers [see Byers] and Margaret Shannon, born in Ferbruary, 1794 in Washington Co. Four years after their marriage, John and Margaret bought a farm in Donegal Twp. just south of the village of West Alexander, PA where they remained the rest of their days. They were members of the Three Ridges Presbyterian church where John was elected a ruling elder in 1828, serving 40 years until his death on 11 December, 1868 of gangrene poisoning. Margaret died in May 1867 and both were reinterred in the, then, new Memorial Cemetery at West Alexander in 1875.
Barbara McDonald, born circa 1821 at Donegal Twp., Washington Co., PA, married as his 2nd wife, Thomas Frazier, born 9 January, 1810 in Finley Twp., the son of David Frazier and Jane Ross [see Frazier]. Barbara and Thomas lived their married life in the village of West Alexander where he was the proprietor of a general store. He died on 16 September, 1877 of lockjaw and she passed away on 11 August, 1901 of "old age". Both are buried at Memorial Cemetery in West Alexander.
Rev. George McDonald, born on 23 February, 1823 at Donegal Twp., Washington Co., PA, married on 20 May, 1858, Martha Steele Blaney, the daughter of Charles Blaney and Nancy Faris [see Faris - Page 5]. George was educated at the West Alexander Academy where he later taught. He studied theology under Rev. John McCluskey and Rev. William H. Lester at West Alexander. George and Martha settled in Beallsville, OH, but by 1889 were residing in Ten Mile, PA. He died on 16 March, 1909 at West Alexander, and she on 8 January, 1918, same.
Nancy Margaret "Nannie" McDonald, born 3 April, 1859 at Beallsville, OH, married on 12 June, 1883 at Prosperity, PA, Elmer Elsworth Miller, a merchant of Beallsville, OH born on 6 February, 1861, same and died 18 Sep 1943. Nannie attended the Washington Female Seminary at Washington, PA where she graduated in the Class of 1879.
Dr. John McCluskey McDonald, born on 8 June, 1862 at Beallsville, OH, married on 21 October, 1885 at Barnesville, OH, Ada C. Baker, born 5 February, 1861 at Barnesville. John attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA then completed his medical training at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, graduating in April, 1885. He established his practice in Columbus, OH. He migrated to Bellaire, OH and opened a retail drug business. John died on 8 Nov 1951 and Ada on 26 Dec 1943.
Rev. Charles H. McDonald, born 7 July, 1865 at Beallsville, OH, married on 26 November, 1892 at West Alexander, PA, Mary Myrtle Bell, the daughter of James R. Bell and Mary C. _______ of West Alexander. Mary was born on 28 May, 1869 at West Alexander. Charles attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, graduating in the Class of 1886. He then attended Union Theological Seminary in New York, where he graduated in 1889. In 1892, he accepted a call to the pastorage of the First Congressional Church of Woodbridge, NJ after living for two years in South Dakota.
Rev. John McCluskey McDonald, born 15 Sep 1833 in Washington Co., PA, married on 25 April, 1871, Janet Percy of Ogdensburg, NY. John studied at the Northwestern (now McCormick) Theological Seminary, graduating in April, 1866. In 1889, John and Janet were living in Ulysses, KS. He retired in Lincoln, NE where he died on 15 May 1913 as a result of being struck by a train while standing on the tracks.
Raymond April McDonald was born on 30 Apr 1886 and his twin brother Rosmond May McDonald was born on 1 May 1886. Their middle names are indicative of this unusual occurance.
