Route classification

You will notice that each route is classified with a letter and, sometimes, a sign "+" or "-".

That letter will tell you quickly what it is the degree of difficulty. There are five categories, each with three subdivisions. We provide an example to give you the idea.

Levels evaluate routes globally, including: Physical exigency, knowledge, safety, duration and amount of equipment required.

Categories

  1. STROLL (P): Ideal for beginners. It does not require gear nor special physical conditions.
    • P- Very easy. You can bring your grandmother with you. Walking in Parque del Este.
    • P Easy. A trip to Galipán by car and stroll up there or Quebrada Quintero (high path).
    • P+ You start to sweat. Leave grandma at home. Quebrada Quintero to Pajaritos.
  2. WALK (C): If you are a weekend athlete, try these.
    • C- Long but gentle slopes. From Cotiza to Los Venados.
    • C You sweat a lot. The classic Sabas Nieves route.
    • C+ You sweat a lot and your tongue hangs out helplessly. Going up to Pico Oriental.
  3. TREKKING (E): When walks bore you, come on to next level.
    • E- You camp one night or walks many hours. Route to Lagunazo.
    • E Several camping nights and long slopes. Trip to Chuao using the long path.
    • E+ As the former, but your feet are sore. I forgot an example.
  4. TRAVEL (V): Like trekking, but it lasts more than 3 days. You carry a lot of gear.
    • V- Steps slopes combined with easy paths. Going to Laguna Verde (Mérida).
    • V Like V-, but longer. La Travesía (Mérida).
    • V+ Besides resistance and equipment, you do need experience. "Normal" route to Pico Bolívar.
  5. EXTREME (X): If you really can do it, you don't need to read this web site for sure.
    • X- Very hard, but you can do it with years of experience. Pico Bolívar north face.
    • X Extremely hard, even if you are pro. Climbing Everest peak.
    • X+ Permanent danger. Only for a handful of persons in the world. Ideal to bring your mother-in-law with you. Climbing K2.

NOTE: This is a completely subjective classification, and it came up a night when I had nothing better to do (my girlfriend cancel our date). If you don't like it, make your own and send it to nobody@dontcare.foo

In the other hand, if you like it and you have and example to E+, send it to mail@venaventura.com
