Aventura Venezuela
Minimum equipment list

In order to travel to Sierra Nevada de Mérida you must carry some equipment. Rangers may open your backpack to verify you have it.

Really, there are two lists: One for trekking routes and the other for climbing routes:

  • Trekking and camping equipment (personal & group):
    • Tent.
    • Sleeping bags.
    • Camping oven.
    • Flashlights.
    • First aid kit.

  • Climbing equipment (personal):
    • Climbing helmet.
    • Harness.
    • Carabiner.
    • Mosqueton.
    • Descender.
    • Crampons.
    • Piolet (Ice ax).
    • Dark glasses.
    • Sleeping bag.
    • Insulation mat.
  • Climbing equipment (group):
    • Rope: 40 m (130 ft) long and 9 mm or 11 mm (0.35" to 0.43") thick.
    • Slings.
    • Tent.
    • Camping oven.
    • Flashlights.
    • First aid kit.

First aid kit. should include:

  • Bandages and gauzes.
  • Antiseptic solutions (i.e. iodine).
  • Treatment for burns (i.e. Furacin).
  • Analgesics y antipyretics (i.e. aspirin, Bral, Commel, Buscapina).
  • Antihistamines (i.e. Polaramine, Celestamine).
  • Tablets for diarrhea (i.e. Loperam).
  • Oral rehydration salts.
  • Cream for muscle pain (i.e. Hirudoid).
  • Muscle relaxant.

Also, when you travel in high mountains you should carry sun blockers, rehydration creams and lip stick, because sun is a lot stronger up there (even though you don't feel so).
