Germany/Bulgaria Trip Diary

"Singing in the Rain..."

Day 1

Well I finally got lucky at Alicante airport where I am getting to know the security staff and ice cream sellers quite well!  Today was "International Ugly Shorts Day" and I got to actually witness this amazing contest.  I must have missed it last year… it kind of comes and goes, like the English summer.

There were so many contestants and I certainly couldn´t have picked a winner because some of the entries were absolutely breathtaking in their ugliness.  Where do they find this stuff?  And what kind of mirror do they look in?  The only consolation was the certain knowledge that no sane human being would wear these things on a normal day… just for today´s contest.  But, then again, this IS Alicante airport!

Then…. As if this all had not been enough already… I had the most incredible ice cream.  How do I know it was incredible?  Because it was €4.75 ($6.00) for two small scoops (vanilla of course)!!!!  So that´s another little pleasure gone for ever.

Anyway,  I´m off to Germany on my favourite airline, Air Berlin.  I will meet the band in Stuttgart to begin our short time together and hope it will be the best it can be.  More soon…

Have you ever notice that smokers are generally thinner than non-smokers?  And, amidst all this "behaviour change" hue and cry about cigarettes, have you ever stopped to think about how much carbon monoxide poison we inhale just simply being out in the open air?  Think cars will be banned??

I arrived safe and sound in Stuttgart and met the guys at the airport.  Apart from some understandable concern about a couple of pieces of missing luggage, everyone was in good spirits as we boarded the shuttle bus to the hotel.  It was quite late but the hotel had prepared sandwiches, cakes and beer for us so we went off to bed happy.
