Germany/Bulgaria Trip Diary

"Singing in the Rain..."

Day 4

Sunday!!

At exactly 08:30 the church bells rang loudly in Schorndorf and I was awake…. early!  I like the sound of real church bells, and I was trying to remember the last time I heard them!  It must have been a long, long time ago and these were real church bells being rung by hand and not electronics.  Very cool and very loud!

Mike and I had a long meeting over breakfast and we discussed some interesting ideas for the future which I will begin to share with you over the next few months because these developments will form the basis for my long-term musical future.  But soon it was time to go and my driver arrived bang on time for the drive to Frankfurt airport which would take about 2 ˝ hours.  This was going to be a long day!

I asked them to drop me off at Terminal 2 but I soon found out that I needed to be at Terminal 1 and that´s a long trek!  But I had plenty of time so I looked around the shops and waited…. and waited.  Finally the check-in desk opened but the computers were down so this was obviously going to take a while.  The line for the flight to Sofia, Bulgaria was long and getting longer but, as usual, it soon began to turn into two and then three lines as the more ignorant late arrivals decided they weren´t going to go to the back!  Several arguments actually broke out but these people are just so stubbornly rude they obviously felt entitled to just jump in front of everyone else.  I think that, if I had been able to speak their language, they would have heard a few choice phrases from me too.  Not that it would have made any difference of course.  I hate this!

I fell asleep before the plane took off, woke up, ate another "mature" sandwich, slept again and finally we arrived in Sofia, just a few minutes late.  I got all of my luggage (halelujah!) and my driver and his wife were waiting for me outside customs so we climbed into their nice, shiny Toyota 4x4 and began the long, boring ride to Stara Zagora.  Neither of them spoke English so I tried to do some work but it really was a boring ride.

Peter called and talked me into joining them at a restaurant and I was actually grateful for the snack.  John and I made a plan for the private party we would be doing the following day but I really needed to get to bed so we paid our respect, kissed a little ass and went to the hotel.  The hotel was nice but my room faced East….. as I would find out later.
