Day 6
Breakfast was
on the terrace this morning and the weather and the view were so nice that I
stayed there for a while and did a little "office" work.
A couple of
hours later we left for sound check which (of course) was delayed so we stopped
in a bar across the street for a beer. John and I were only planning to do
four songs during the Sunrise concert so we had no stress at all but things were
pretty chaotic and communication was definitely lacking! John and I tried
to help but all we could do was roll with it and hope we beat the curfew.
By the time we finished there was a little less chaos but, in reality, the
problems were more of human origin than technical, if you know what I mean!
Or even if you don't know what I mean…..
Anyway the
debacle ended and we had time to shower and clean up before going to meet Sasho,
one of the show's main sponsors. He was there waiting and we had some
really good seafood appetizers and even better conversation until it was time to
go to the show. The venue was really cool, an amphitheatre in the heart of
town where half of the building was taken up by the stage.
The show
started, the audience warmed up slowly and then I was brought on stage to play
Lady in Black, then John and the whole group played Hanging Tree, Stealin' and,
of course July Morning which, by now you know as the unofficial national anthem
of Bulgaria.
As a show it
wasn't the most exciting time of my life but it made a lot of people very happy
and that was the most satisfying part…. As it often is.
Arrangements
had been made for some after-show celebrations but these plans went a bit wrong
so instead of nibbling and tippling (look it up Toni!) we ended up on an
unscheduled sightseeing tour of downtown which I didn't need because I had done
it the day before and now I was tired! I don't deal with these situations too
well so it was good that we finally got back to the hotel, which was where we
were supposed to go in the first place! Toni went for Pizza (bless her
heart) but soon it was time for some quick
"goodbyes" and bed. This had been a long day and tomorrow will be even
longer.
