Today we flew into St. Petersburg for a brief
guest appearance at the Siemens Festival of Jazz, Rock and Blues
and it was very hectic to say the least! Our cars were held up for
30 minutes while Mr. Putin and Herr Schroeder arrived
at the airport and then we were under way!
After a pit stop for sushi (care of the local promoter and sponsors)
we got to the venue where there was more chaos and the "phrase
of the day" seemed to be
"it isn't on the rider!"
So we didn't get a real sound check and Richard was tearing his
hair out (well, he would have if he had any!! :-) but we were on
stage last so we just relaxed and, when we did go on stage, we did
a live sound check!! We played a quick 40-minute set and then it
was a mad dash for the overnight train to Moscow.
One of these days I hope we get time to look around St. Petersburg
(or "Peter" as it is commonly referred to). It has some
beautiful buildings, museums and cathedrals which we have seen frequently
but always from the outside!!
Anyway the train was very comfortable and we settled down for the
8 ½ hour journey. Today blended into tomorrow and it was
time to grab some sleep!
Next
day...
