Sunday… and it felt like it. Things were much more quiet around the studio and everyone seemed to feel a little… slow!

Today was vocal day so we set about getting good reference vocals on to each of the basic tracks that were complete so we could use them as a guide for all the overdubs. I'll do the master vocal tracks once everything else is added, though I am not sure that will happen during this visit. I have to leave on the 28th to prepare for the Summer Party in Norway on July 3rd so I'll probably come back on or about July 12th to finish the first audio CD and get started on the second one.

For the vocals, I am using a Manley "Gold Reference" microphone for the first time and I must say the results so far are really good. When it comes time to do the master vocals we'll spend a little more time with settings, limiters etc.. but for now it's a good sounding, transparent and natural sounding microphone. I have mastered before using the SSL 9000 J but this is the first time I have recorded on one and it really is a superb desk. I am looking forward to mixing on it!

After another interview and lunch we finished the first six reference vocals so the plan tomorrow is set. Finish all the basic tracks, add some simple synth parts, clean up here and there and prepare to cut the live tracks on Tuesday. Things rarely go as simply as they should in the studio so we are planning for that too… as best we can.

I got back in time to watch the race but I needn't have bothered. Formula 1 is becoming so predictable and boring that the outcome of qualifying and the race is totally predictable… almost not worth watching!

I am glad I am not in Spain now though… being beaten by Portugal will probably lead to mass suicide!! The Spanish are passionate about their football but they don't handle defeat well, especially by their neighbours!! Nasty!

Next day...
