July 30th 2004

We didn’t get off to a very good start today. I didn’t sleep well because there was something seriously wrong with the air-conditioning in the hotel (like… it didn’t work!) and I figure it was probably 30+ degrees C in my room (that’s about 90F for those of you in Loma Linda) and that ain’t sleeping temperature!

But we persevere and so after breakfast I waited for the car… and waited… and waited and eventually got to the studio to find that one of the girls (we were set to do backing vocals all day today) had a flight delay… aaaagggghhh! Actually the airport was closed because of fog which leads me to recall an interesting experience… I was watching BBC World this morning and as I looked out of my window at a lovely sunny morning, the meteorologist declared that it was raining in Moscow… hmmmm!

So… Raisa was early and we started by doing her parts on "Circle of Hands" and "Feelings" so she could leave to do her lunchtime concert. Irina arrived just as we sat down to lunch and poor thing was going crazy but she settled down and we adjusted our schedule so as to make everything fit.

As I think I mentioned before, one of the biggest problems is getting them to pronounce the words correctly and it was kind of cute that, at one point, they were singing what sounded like  "never believe you norway" in "Weep in Silence" but it ended up being a nice touch that adds to the "local" colour of the project. Something for you to listen out for!

Anyway, after many more hours of ooohing and aaahing we were finally done and the tracks sound great and that’s what counts. It was time to let the girls go and set about the many other instrumental overdubs we needed to do.

After working on some electric guitar parts, the day wound down and it was time to retreat to the hotel… hoping that they had fixed the air-conditioning!

They hadn’t……

Next day...
