February 12th 2003 Recording The Last Dance has been very exciting and, because it's a long song, we decided to record it in three sections, each of which has a different character, tempo etc. This was a long process and each section went through a lot of "development" as we explored the many possibilities in an effort to get the most out of it. The result so far has been amazing and tomorrow we're going to begin some of the "reference" tracks (Hammond, guitars etc…) which will give us a look at the bigger picture and enable us to plan the overdubs carefully!! It's funny really… recording takes up so much time it's hard to think of anything else! I have struggled to come up with something that might interest the non-musical/non-technical readers out there but apart from the fact that we have now built a "refreshment area" in the control room and stocked it with tea and coffee etc. it's really all about music and recording at the moment so I hope it's not too boring!! Anyway… more tomorrow. Next day...
