March 9th 2003

Well, another week has passed (again, so fast!!) and the record is starting to take more "shape" now!! As the overdubs are added so the songs begin to really come to life (I know, I use that term a lot... sorry!) and it gets very exciting (for me anyway!). And I think about all of you at this time because I like to imagine how you will react when you hear it all for the first time (by which time I will have heard it for the thousandth time!) and I honestly think (and hope!) you will like this CD.

It's a giant step forward from Running Blind and it comprises different influences that I hope will make it more interesting and appealing to a wider audience. Just based on what's down already I know you will recognise a lot of the influences from the past and I hope that the combination of those characteristics with the new sounds, energies and ideas that have come from this particular team will make it more enjoyable.

Danny (my engineer and co-producer) has been the catalyst for much of the "thinking" on this CD and through him I have been blessed with another team of great players. To me, every great player is unique and cannot be replaced and this way of thinking (and I admit that this is only my opinion) makes it foolish to even try... so I don't! (for example and if I may, no-one but Dave Kilminster could have come up with that solo on "Tell Me"!).

As always, the songs and my "style" (which has evolved over so many years) need a very specific approach and Danny has helped to find the players who not only understand that but add their own "character" to the songs. Tommy (on my right in this photo) and John (who missed the photo!!) have laid down such a solid foundation that we have a lot to work with and for the last two days I have enjoyed the relative genius of Ovidio Lopez on guitar (he's on my left in the photo).

Probably like many of you, I can easily "think" guitar parts but I often can't play them and through that strange blend of quasi-psychic phenomena and empathy Ovidio, at first, became my "hands" and then stretched his own amazing technique to add incredible new dimensions to the songs he played on, whether it was acoustic, Spanish or electric.

There's a whole lot more to be done but we are making progress and I can't wait to share this with you!! Back soon...

God bless,
Ken
