Tuesday August 4th and we are moving quickly now.
The CD is really taking shape and we are fine tuning dynamics, final-checking
harmonies and backing vocals ready to start mixing tomorrow!
As we go through the whole CD (which I have heard a million times
now!) I am very happy with the mix of songs we are putting together
and Danny has really captured a lot of the spirit of early Heep/Hensley
recordings and blended them with some very modern production values.
We have used 64 tracks on most songs which has given us the flexibility
to experiment a lot and to have a lot of options to choose from.
As each song is fine-tuned it becomes easier to decide which option
to use and this means, for example that we have been able to do
some really cool and unusual things with the backing vocals. The
very first notes of the CD will tell you that this is something
quite different and, I hope, special.
The most exciting thing for me I suppose (apart from the fact that
we are almost done!!) is how everything fits together, something
I really didn't capture on some past recordings but something that
really adds to the energy and enjoyment of the whole project.
Soon you will have a chance to form your own opinion! As soon as
the cover is ready Rod will put it up on the site along with a lot
of the other information and ordering details for the 1000 "limited
edition" copies which will be available at the end of August.
For me, I am already writing new songs but I am going to take a
few days off after this and catch my breath! This has been a crazy
year and I'd like to give some serious thought to what happens next!!
