DAY TWENTY-TWO

Have you ever had one of those days when you wondered if you were doing the right thing? One thing after another went wrong today and at one point I think we all wondered if we were meant to go to Newcastle at all! I won't go into details but believe me when I tell you that this was a real test of our determination and commitment!

It all ended up that we were quite late getting to Newcastle and, as this was a gig we had re-scheduled from April, we had none of our normal crew with us. Jim and the guys at The Opera House had done a great job preparing and the show was sold out so everyone made maximum effort and we pulled it off!! Of course it meant that most of the audience got to see the gear being set up and a mini sound check but I think they enjoyed that and, besides, they paid their money, received a little "bonus" and they had their pints to keep them happy!

As it turned out it was a great gig and everyone had done their part to make it that way. I am really proud of everyone… the band, the crew, the staff at the venue and Jim and Graham our stand-in guitar tech and sound engineer!! Unfortunately I had to rush away at the end as I had an 8am flight from Heathrow and the only way to get there on time was by car.

So this ends the UK leg and next it's Holland and Belgium. New territory for Free Spirit and after a week's break I expect we will be more than ready!!

Next day...
