JULY 5TH

Well, here we are in Verviers. I was here last year with John Lawton and I remember it being a cool club but right now I have to have more tea so I can wake up!

"Spirit of '66" is a great club and the stage is a perfect size for us. Sound check was short and tonight's meal was Chinese so we are enjoying a variety of gourmet delights on this short trip! The problem with my Leslie is not one that can be fixed easily so I am going to have to live with it, probably until I get back to England.

It was great to se Uwe (Reuters) and he gave me the latest book (Volume 5) in his series on Uriah Heep. I didn't have a chance to get into it there and then but we did have a chance to chat and I gave him one of the bootlegs that had been given to me as a "gift" the night before. I could have easily called this the "BOOTLEG CHRONICLES" as I have seen more bootleg CDs in these few days than ever before. I can remember when bootlegs were not something that anyone would be proud of but now I am asked to sign them! Things certainly have changed!

We had a good crowd tonight and apart from my cold, it went well. I think I am going to have to just live with this cold until I get home and can rest for a while. Having to go to America straight from Newcastle and then turning around and coming straight back etc… I really haven't had a moment to recover but we have a break coming up so if I can get through tomorrow… all will be well. You can ask any singer, it's disappointing to be at less than your best but I would rather go for it than quit so that's what I am going to do…… along with a few prayers!!!

Next day...
