JULY 7TH

Back in Holland and really excited because it was just confirmed that we will be playing at a very special event in Russia this September. You can read all about it on the web site now!

After a quick pit-stop at a hotel for showers and lunch, we headed into Lemelerveld which is a very small town!! Good thing we did stop on the way!! While the crew are loading I thought I would reflect a bit… tonight is the last of these three shows and the last (38th) show of our first tour… so there is a lot to reflect on! Too much actually, now I come to think about it, so maybe I'll write a little epilogue on the whole thing a little later, after I have had time to reflect and collect my thoughts.

It IS fun to look forward though… a little time off, meetings with potential book publishers, our first festival on July 27th, some writing time in Spain, moving house, another festival in Berlin on my birthday (our first headliner) and then the next tour which starts in September and includes, among other things, that very special week in Russia. Lars Ratz at Monster Productions is laying out an interesting itinerary and Martin and I will fly to Hamburg soon to have a planning and strategy meeting with him and Manlio Celotti. Promotion on the dates has already begun so we won't have any of the problems that plagued us recently and we will be breaking some new ground in Italy, Spain and France for example. Somewhere in there we have to squeeze pre-production for the first Free Spirit album which we will record in November and some time for Free Spirit to record an anthology of my favourite songs so it will be a busy second half of the year!

Louis (Rentrop) arrived in the late afternoon and we had a little time to chat which was nice and it was just as well, because our plan was to leave as soon as possible after the show so we could make the ferry back to England! Louis… thanks for all of your help, support and encouragement!

I am writing now on the ferry. Actually I am still on the bus because I didn't get up in time to go on to the boat and they lock the doors once the boat sails! Bummer! This part of the boat is full of buses and cars (not terribly interesting) and someone's car alarm keeps going off which is no fun!

Last night's show was actually a good one from our standpoint. The sound on stage was excellent though it was a real struggle for me vocally, But we made it through and everyone was very kind afterwards! I do appreciate that, though it's probably impossible to explain how it feels to work at 50%!!! But we didn't cancel the show (haven't cancelled one yet) and there is always next time!

For now though, it's time to get ready to arrive in England and get to the TV in time to watch the British Grand Prix and Wimbledon (may have to watch them at the same time!), have a barbecue at Martin's and a meeting to plan scheduling for the next few months. Oh, and by the way, don't miss the Kilminster Kolumn on the next page… the first instalment of "Words from the Other Side", designed to break up the monotony of my writing and to help you get to know FS a bit better!!!!

As I have said before, The Free Spirit train is rolling now and it seems we have a lot to look forward to. If we haven't seen you yet then we will probably see you soon! I certainly hope so. On behalf of Andy, Dave, Monica, Pete & Yatta… thanks to all of you for being a part of this!

God bless,
Ken Hensley
