DAY 7

The drive to Kokkola took a little longer than expected and the people carrier has summer tyres so we had to be extra careful!! Also, speeding causes big fines and big problems so the Finnish people are very obedient to the speed limits. Now I am too! Finland is a very nice country and the people are lovely! The best word I can find to describe them is "decent"! I mean they don't even "jay-walk"!!

Of course, being the first gig, we had some technical difficulties and the venue itself was quite small but everyone was in a positive mood and we "just did it"! My biggest problem was getting used to the fact that these shows were so late! We were not even scheduled to go on until after midnight so it was time for sound check and maybe a nap!! No such luck…Heikki was there and Tapio and the excitement of the first show was too much so I got ready for the gig as normal.

All I can really say is that it was great and, though we will make some small changes along the way, I was very pleased with this show. The audience was big and loud and you can't ask for much more than that. The size of the venue didn't bother me at all… I would much rather play in a small club, sold out and full of a crowd that appreciated the music… any day!!

After signing a bunch of autographs and meeting and greeting a whole bunch of people I staggered to bed to watch qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix at 4:30am!! As luck would have it, qualifying was cut short by rain so I went to sleep around 5.

If this is a sign of things to come, this is going to be fun!

Next day...
