The 2.2-liter, single overhead cam 20R has been a mainstay of American
Toyota enthusiasts since its introduction in the late 1970s. A derivative
of the original R engine of the 1950s, the 20R is a torquey engine that
responds well to modifications. Street modders have been known to do very
well with 20Rs in both Celicas and Toyota trucks, where they were standard
