The TV show The X-Files has become a phenomenal success all around the world. Millions of people tune in on Sunday nights to see the latest exploits of F.B.I. Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Cultural, political, and psychological influences are interweaved into a variety of motifs that make The X-Files a truly unique show. The show has not only grown in terms of it's popularity, but also the mythology arc implicates conspiracies of a global scale. When we first met Agent Mulder in the basement of the Pentagon, it was obvious that his interests in the paranormal were more than strictly professional. He was a man on a mission. Soon after meeting Agent Scully, we discover the real reason behind Mulder's obsession with all things alien.

It has been airing for 5 seasons, and the show's popularity hasn't waned a bit. Creator Chris Carter has managed to pull us in deeper. So deep, that there's no escape from becoming addicted to the show. With the premier of season 5, Carter has uncovered more pieces of the puzzle. Will we ever find out the truth? It's unlikely the fans will be allowed to discover the truth behind the abduction of Mulder's sister, Samantha, the nature of Scully's disease, or CancerMan's personal agenda until the culmination of the series. The release of The X-Files Movie in 1998 has shed some light, but still leaves eager fans coming back for more. In one scene of the movie, the Well Manicured Man informs Mulder that his sister, Samantha, was abducted in order to save her life. He tells our agent that the Syndicate has been preparing for alien assimilation for many years, and they have been secretly working to prepare an antidote that will neutralize the alien's attempts to create human hosts for gestating aliens. That conversation alone fuels the energy behind the search for the truth.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the show as much as I do and the millions of fans across the world. If you are new to the show, you should check out the reruns that are airing on the FX Channel. The Fox Network is also airing reruns after each new episode on Sunday nights. Two episodes in one night! If you prefer, you can buy the earlier episodes on video.
