Coming from a bulletin board X-Men discussion group, we hear quite a few rumors each day. Some will probably come true, and others are probably blatant exagerations of facts. So what you'll find on this page will be confirmed news, rampant rumors and probably quite a few lies. So if you really want accurate information on the world of comics, I recommend that you go to Michael Doran's Newsarama.
Why don't you go back.

News, Rumors and Lies
Mr. Kelly has been giving out little hints of upcoming X-Men changes and on the list are: a team of 7-8 X-Men, a possibly delayed/possibly cancelled death of an X-Man, the return of Gambit and a hunt for Xavier in September! Sounds like fun!
It looks like that outdated Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe is getting a big overhaul and update. The new volumes will be released in bound format and are scheduled for release in 1999 (Newsarama, May 22).
A new four issue mini-series is being planned for the X-Men. Titled X-Men: Liberators, the series will be drawn by Phil Jimenez and written by Joseph Harris (X-Factor #147). Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Colossus will be the stars. Harris told Newsarama: "The series takes the 3 reunited X-Men to Russia and finds them in the middle of a Cold War secret that can no longer be contained," explained Harris. "Ever wonder
why 3 children in the Rasputin family were born mutants? Could it be Siberia, the vast
wilderness used by the government for nuclear tests for the better part of 20 years? Could be.
The bigger question we ask is, could there have been more mutant children born out there
beneath the Ural Mountains and what would the secretive communist government do with
them if discovered. And what the heck do Colossus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler have to do
with everything." This will all be happening around September (Newsarama, May 22)!
After Awesome Entertainment hits some bumps not long ago, Brandon Peterson once again found himself looking at possible penciling chores with the X-Men. In his own words:
"I have been in contact with the X-Office over the last weeks, and it currently looks like I will probably be penciling X-MEN #80, written by Joe Kelly, inked by Art Thibert, and colored by Liquid!" Peterson posted on his own Arcanum Message Board. "It is a double-sized 35th anniversary issue."
Since the penciling chores have been more or less assigned well into the future, the X-Office may be giving him a maxi-series to pencil. However this might mean Yu will stay on Wolverine and Peterson would take adjectiveless X-Men. Either way it works out well. Keep those fingers crossed (Newsarma April 17)!
If you missed the Wizard #79 interview with current X-Writers Seagle and Kelly you can read the 11,000 word transcript over at WizardWorld.Com, but make sure you're in store for a long read.
Look behind the scenes of Wolverine #125 over at Marvel Online. See Yu's original work and Claremont's notes on the story. Go see it.
Eric Larsen is scheduled to be the new writer for Wolverine after Claremont's run (Newsarama, April 17).
Adam Pollina, the long time X-Force penciler, is going to be leaving the book after issue #81 (July). He plans on doing a creator owned project, possibly with Marvel. The new X-Force penciler will be Jimmy Cheung (Maverick), who is taking over art chores with issue #82. How's that for quick service (Newsarama March, 27)!
It appears that the penciling chores for adjectiveless X-Men have finnaly been cleared up. German Garcia of X-Men #75 fame will also draw #77 and #78, then Adam Kubert (Hulk) will take over with issue #80 for a four issue story arc leading into Alan Davis' (Excalibur) six issue stint and finnaly Yu will become the regular penciler of the series with, presumably, issue #90 (Newsarama March, 13)
Psi-War, the reported summer event, will see the return of Xavier, the Shadow King and probably lots of your other favorite telepaths (X-Men Briefing Forum).
Well it looks like the new penciler on adjectiveless X-Men may have been named. After Peterson signed a contract with Awesome it was back up in the air, but recently Lenil Francis Yu has announced on his page that Alan Davis will draw six issues and then hand him the reigns of X-Men. Presumably most of you know Yu from Wolverine, but if you don't thats where to check him out, and Davis just did the first three issues of the relaunched Fantastic Four. This might not be definite yet...
In a recent Wizard, Joe Kelly and Steve Seagle have reported upcoming roster changes, and more importantly that an X-Man will die by the end of the year! Think you know who it'll be? If you said Joseph you're not alone... well just have to wait and see.
Excalibur will be canceled. Read away: " MARVEL has finally confirmed the long-rumored cancellation of their EXCALIBUR title. X-editor Mark Powers made the
initial announcement (or more accurately, confirmation) of the
cancellation of the title with issue #125 (Aug) in an AOL chat
early this week, and writer BEN RAAB collaborated the
announcement later in an Excalibur folder in a Marvel AOL
comics forum.
Answering the question "why the title was canceled?", Raab
replied, "Well, it's a matter of editorial streamlining. Sales are still
decent with EXCALIBUR, but I believe many folks feel -- and
sometimes rightly -- that the X-line is sort of bloated right now,
and it's time to cut the chaff from the wheat. Unfortunately, as
well as EXCALIBUR maybe doing in relation to the rest of the
industry, it isn't doing as well as some of the other ones...and
has 3 very popular characters that SOME feel could be better
served elsewhere. (Not that I agree with that, of course)." " (Newsarama January 29)
Looks like the X-Babies will be back under the spotlight soon. Their scheduled time slot is sometime this summer and they will be directed by Ruben Diaz (Newsarama January 29).
A new rumor that's been circulating, is that X-Man will end sometime around the end of the year. Suposedly Kelly and Seagle have added credance to the rumor, but that too could be false. I guess we'll just have to wait and find out (1/28/98).
A new rumor has surfaced regarding the penciler on X-Men. Brandon Peterson, who drew for UXM during the X-Cutioner's Song Crossover, has been discussing taking over the art chores with the X-Office. Nothing is confirmed yet (Newsarama January 23).
Earlier reports about C. Claremont writing X-Men #76 are false. Instead Joe Kelly will write the issue which delves into Maggott's past. However Claremont will be extending his stint on Wolverine from just issue #125 to issues #125-129 (Newsarama January 23)!
Marvel has finally confirmed Carlos Pacheco's departure from X-Men. His last issue will be X-Men #74. Conflicting messages about Jason Pearson becoming the penciler continue, but Pearson has drawn the covers of both X-Men #73 and Generation X #36 (Newsarama January 23).
Duncan Rouleau's replacement on X-Factor has been confirmed, by Marvel, to be Tom Raney (Stormwatch, DV8). The switch will occur with the anniversary issue #150, which will feature the new team line-up and the return of an old face. Rouleau moves on to pencil Alpha Flight at Steve Seagle's request (Newsarama, January 23).
Carlos Pacheco is leaving his chores as penciler on X-Men to work his magic on other Marvel books. He has plans to draw the Avengers/Squadron Supreme '98 Annual and Avengers: World in Chains. His replacement on X-Men hasn't been confirmed yet, but Jason Pearson (Bodybags, UXM Annual #17) has been rumored to pick up the art chores (Newsarama, January 9).
