Solo

"Solo sounds so alone, doesn't it? A single, unit of one, by one's self. We are all solo at one time or another and in truth, in some ways, we are solo all the time. Yet, there is something about being solo that at times seems very much alone. We need support, we need friendship, we need the warmth and interaction of others. There are those who choose the solo path and are quite comfortable with it. These are the souls who need the time within themselves to grow, to have time for contemplation. This path comes to many of us at times. However, we are mindful of the yearning for relationships, for the company of others.

It is important to realize the importance of being comfortable with one's self. There are those who have never been solo, never been alone. They come from a large family and their life progresses to other things that bring them in contact with people in groups or individuals. It is difficult for them to learn how to be with one's self, to stand alone as a unit of one. Each person is unique and special with no combination of personality traits exactly like another. That in itself should indicate that each person is special, and is not duplicated. As this is the case, one should investigate the 'packaging' of the personality, and as it changes throughout life, it is a good idea to look and see what has changed, what has been dropped and what has been added. As mentioned before, this takes time and takes a willingness to stop the 'rush' and spend some time with self.

It is actually frightening to some to be alone with self. Perhaps they feel vulnerable, perhaps they cannot deal with the feeling of aloneness or perhaps they do not want to take a look at self. Have you noticed that some people are always surrounded by others? Why is this? The need for good company, good thinking, interaction? Maybe. Yet, it is wise to become aware of the self, to be solo, to spend some time with self. Getting to know one's self is a lifelong process as it is a life long process to grow and change in life. It is sometimes the difficulty of looking at one's weaknesses or need to change that keeps many from observation time, or thinking time, or even contemplation time on self.

Solo does not have to be a lonely word. It can be an adventure. It can be a discovery and even a challenge to create and re-create. Unless an individual stops and looks and yes, listens, the process of change is slowed somewhat. We would suggest that if this is a new idea to you, that you choose a time and a place that is very comfortable for you. It does not have to be looked at as a mammoth chore or process. Look at how you were yesterday compared to today. Then think back on a time in your life and see if your ideas and opinions have changed toward a particular subject. Expand your solo song."
