February 11, 1998:

Two days of relative sunshine call for some inspirational tunes. Tonight, it's Benny Goodman's "sing sing sing" for me. The recording I'm listening to is on a compilation, but can also be found on "Carnegie Hall Concert". It was recorded in 1938. Don't let the date fool you. Those drums are wild and the horns and everything else are in on it. Benny Goodman is on Clarinet, and list only gets better: Count Bassie AND Teddy Wilson on keyboards, THE Lionel Hampton on vibraphone, Bobby Hacket on Cornet...it just goes on and on. And who's on those jungle drums? Who else but Gene Krupa!! This is just one of THOSE momments of all time.
February 6, 1998:

All this rain is starting to get to me. It's too dark to be 2 O'clock in the afternoon! I had this song going through my head (I can't stand the rain) and now I'm happily listening to the soundtrack to the Commitments. I can't say enough about that recording of "Try a Little Tenderness". . . . it's an orgasmic arrangement. It sure is getting rid of my rainy day blues. The whole album is great- - - still!
February 5, 1998:

I'm listening to the Dave Mathews Band right now. Funny thing, I've been looking for pictures of XTC on the web.
February 2, 1998:

Stormy Weather!!! My umbrella broke in the wind. . .the house is leaking. . . it's time for Billie Holiday! Annie Lennox, too.
January 29, 1998:

Yeah, it's been a few days since I've updated this page, but I've been really busy--Classes started. Rather than try to catch up on everything I've been listening to, I'll just start with right now.

I just popped Stephane Grappelli in. If you haven't heard of him, he's a Jazz Violinist. He's great! If you like Django Reinhardt, you might want to check out Grappelli.

In case you're interested, it rained so hard last night that car alarms went off. Very noisy. But it was lovely today.
January 19, 1998:

The SUN is out again!!! Just when it seemed the uphill wall of my house was going to collapse from all it's little leaks, the sun came out. Is this page about music, or the Weather channel? Oh, well. It seems to be turning into something of a diary. If you want to read it, I'll write it. I'll probably write it anyway.

I'm trying to get ready for the start of the new semester. It's my "last" semester as a Biology student. I graduate in May!!! Then, if all goes well, I start working toward a Master's degree in Computer Science (I'm very interested in "Bioinformatics"). . . I get to take fun classes like Discrete Mathematics. I keep imagining cartoon numbers tip-toe-ing from behind trees and shruberies. I've always been gifted (?) with an imagination.

So, if you're not my Mother, you're may be wondering what I'm listening today. For some reason I felt the uncontrollable urge to lisen to. . .(drum-roll). . . an album called "The Juliet Letters"(this one actually has stereo samples at CD-now!) . It's a product of the collaboration of Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet (sorry, but I didn't find a link at CD-now for them). It really doesn't fit into any category that I can think of. If you have any classical or jazz inclinations, or just have the guts to listen to something completely different, check out this album. See! I'm not just reporting what I'm listening to, but I am actually advocating this album. If you don't like it at first. Try it again later, it may take a flexible and unbigotted ear. But then again, I may be full of it.
January 15, 1998:

Yet another rainy day in San Francisco. Today, I feel like listening to XTC albums (especially the Dukes of Stratophear albums). Right now, I'm listening to English Settlement. One of my favorite songs on this album is "All of a Sudden (It's too late)", but I also really like "Melt the guns", "Senses working overtime". And "English Roundabout" should be on everyone's driving tape. It's on mine!

January 13, 1998:

Today, I've had the CD-changer on full random, with these albums in the slots: Dave Mathew's Band (Crash), Sheryl Crow (CD-0587), Frente!(shape), ElvisCostello (My Aim is True), and the Cranberries

January 12, 1998:

I've been listening to the Dave Mathew's Band (Crash) all day

January 10, 1998: today's fav song:::
