Gaelic Blessings

Hello all. I have been doing some research, and I have found some more Irish blessings and sayings. In fact I have found so many good things, I had to split this page up. By the end of the day, this page will have Irish blessings and another page will have Irish sayings and proverbs. Make sure you come back to visit. This stuff is great fun. Please sign the guess book or drop me an email. I would really like to hear from some of my visitors!
A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after
showers—
Miles and miles of Irish
smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your
doorway
For luck and laughter
too,
And a host of friends that
never ends
Each day your whole life
through!
May your blessings out
number
The Shamrocks that grow
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
|
May your troubles be
less
And your blessing be more
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door.

A Gaelic Christening
Blessing
Dearest Father in
Heaven,
Bless this child and bless this
day
Of new beginnings.
Smile upon this child
And surround this child,
Lord,
With the soft mantle of your
love.
Teach this child to follow in
your footsteps,
And to live life in the ways
of
Love, faith, hope and
charity.
May you be poor in
misfortunes
and rich in
blessings.
May you know nothing
but happiness
from this day
forward.
|
May good luck be your
friend
In whatever you do
And may trouble be always
A stranger to you.
|
May the blessing of the rain be
on you—
the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your
spirit
so that all the little flowers
may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the
air.
May the blessing of the great
rains be on you,
may they beat upon your
spirit
and wash it fair and
clean,
and leave there many a shining
pool
where the blue of heaven
shines,
and sometimes a star.
Lucky stars above
you,
Sunshine on your way,
Many friends to love you,
Joy in work and play-
Laughter to outweigh each care,
In your heart a song-
And gladness waiting everywhere
All your whole life long.
|
May the roads rise to
meet you.
May the wind be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rain fall soft upon your fields
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
A GAELIC BLESSING
|
You've blessed me with friends
and laughter and fun
With rain that’s as soft as the light from the sun-
You’ve blessed me with the stars to brighten each night
You’ve give me help to know wrong from right
You’ve give me so much please, Lord give me too
A heart that is always grateful to you.
May the frost never
afflict your spuds.
May the leaves of your
cabbage always be free from worms.
May the crows never
pick your haystack.
If you inherit a
donkey, may she be in foal.
|
May the blessings of
each day
Be the blessings you
need most.
|
Whenever there is happiness
Hope you’ll be there too,
Wherever there are friendly smiles
Hope they’ll smile on you,
Whenever there is sunshine,
Hope it shine especially
For you to make each day for you
As bright as it can be.
If God sends you
down
a stony path,
may he give you strong
shoes
|
May the light of
heaven shine on your grave.
|
May the roads rise to meet
you.
May the wind be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rain fall soft upon your fields
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
A GAELIC BLESSING
May your right hand
always
Be stretched out in
friendship
And never in
want
|
May evening find you
gracious and fulfilled.
May you go into the
night blessed, sheltered, and protected.
May your soul calm,
console, and renew you.
|
Lucky stars above you,
Sunshine on your way,
Many friends to love you,
Joy in work and play-
Laughter to outweigh each care,
In your heart a song-
And gladness waiting everywhere
All your whole life long.
May you be buried in a
casket
made from the wood of a 100 year old oak
That I shall plant
tomorrow.
|
May dawn find you
awake and alert,
approaching your new
day with dreams,
possibilities, and
promises
|
May the frost never afflict
your spuds.
May the leaves of your cabbage
always be free from worms.
May the crows never pick your
haystack.
If you inherit a donkey, may
she be in foal.
May
your pockets be heavy
and your heart be
light,
|
May good luck pursue
you
each morning and night
|
May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long
as you live.
