Crochet is one of my favorite past times. Crochet has been a part of my life for many years. I enjoy it very much, especially in the long winters we can have here in Montana.

I hope to offer crochet patterns for you to use that I have done and maybe some that I have not attempted as yet. And also to offer some helpful links for fellow crochet enthusiasts.

These are two afghan patterns I used last year to make several Christmas presents. They turn out beautifully!

Summer Shell

Materials: Worsted weight yarn, 47oz
Size J aluminum crochet hook, or size required for gauge
Gauge: 3 shells=6"
Note: To check gauge, ch 21, work Rows 1 and 2 of pattern; finish off: piece should measure 6" wide.

Instructions

Chain 153 loosely.

Row 1: In 6th chain from hook, work 2 double crochets,chain 1, 2 double crochets:shell made. * skip 2 chains, double crochet in next chain, skip 2 chains, shell in next chain; repeat from * 23 more times; skip 2 chains, double crochet in last chain:25 shells; chain 3 and turn.

Row 2: *Work shell in chain 1 space of next shell, double crochet in next double crochet; repeat from * 24 more times, working last double crochet in top of turning chain 3; chain 3, turn.

Row 3: *Work shell in chain 1 space of next shell,double crochet in next double crochet; repeat from * 24 times more, working last double crochet in top of turning chain 3, chain 3 and turn.

Repeat Row 3 until piece measures 63"; finish off and weave in ends.

Fringe

Make Triple Knot Fringe.
Cut 30" strands of yarn; use 6 strands for each knot of fringe. Tie knots in Chain 1 space of each shell and in each double crochet across each short end of afghan. Trim ends evenly.


Nautilus

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn, 46 ounces
Crochet hook, size P or size needed for gauge.
Note: Entire afghan is worked hoding two strands of yarn together.

Gauge: (Shell,V Stitch) and 4 rows= 3 1/2"

To work V Stitch: double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in stitch or space indicated
To Work Shell: 7 double crochets in stitch indicated

Chain 127 loosely

Row 1: Right Side: work V Stitch in fifth chain from hook, *skip next 4 chains, work shell in next chain, skip next 4 chains, work VStitch in next chain; repeat from * across to last 2 chains, skip next double crochet, double crochet in last chain; 13 V Stitches.

Row 2: Chain 3(counts as first double crochet, now and throughout), turn;work V Stitch in next chain 1 space, *chain 3, skip next 4 double crochet, single crochet in next double crochet, chain 3, work V-Stitch in next chain 1 space; repeat from * across to last 2 stitches, skip next double crochet, double crochet in top of beginning chain.

Row 3: Chain 3, turn; work V Stitch in next chain 1 space, *work shell in next single crochet, work V Stitch in next chain 1 space; repeat from * across to last 2 double crochets, skip next double crochet, double crochet in last double crochet.

Row 4: Chain 3, turn; work V Stitch in next chain 1 space * chain 3, skip next 4 double crochets, single crochet in next double crochet, chain 3, work V stitch in next chain 1 space; repeat from * across to last 2 double crochets, skip next double crochet, double crochet in last double crochet.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until Afghan measures approximately 58" from beginning chain, ending by working Row 4; do not finish off.

Edging

Round 1:Chain 1, turn; single crochet,chain 1, single crochet in first double crochet, work 99 single crochets evenly spaced across to last double crochet, single crochet, chain 1, single crochet in last double crochet; work 131 single crochets evenly spaced across end of rows; working in free loops of beginning chain, single crochet, chain one, single crochet in first chain, work 99 single crochet evenly spaced across to last chain, single crochet, chain 1, single crochet in last chain, work 131 evenly spaced single crochets across end of rows; join with slip stitch to first single crochets; 468 single crochets.

Round 2: Slip stitch in first chain 1 space, chain 1, single crochet in same space, chain 2 twice, *+ skip next single crochet, single crochet in next single crochet, chain 2, skip next single crochet across to next chain 1 space+ single crochet in chain 1 space, chain 2 twice; repeat from * 2 more times, repeat from + to + once; join with slip stitch to first single crochet, finish off.
