Birth
of Coffee
In
the tropical highlands of Eastern Africa long time ago, an Ethiopian shepard
noticed that his goats behaved strangely all night after gazing some berries.
The shepard then tried some on himself and felt strongly invigorated. He
told the local monks of the strange effect of the berries. From then on,
the monks drank the concoction made from pouring water over the berries
to keep them awake through their long devtionals. This is where the first
cup of coffee
was born.
(It's
only a legend,
up to individual to believe.)

Coffee
was nothing like we know it today. At the begining, nobody had thought
of roasting the coffee beans. It was only in the 1200s in Arabia that roasting
coffee began as a custom. |

Spread
of Coffee
As
Coffee was known as 'Arabia Wine' then, began to gain fans around the world.
The Dutch even stole a coffee tree from Mocha,
an Arabian port, and brought it to Indonesia. People everywhere were instantly
addicted to coffee wherever it spread. The first coffee house was opened
in Paris in 1643, Oxford followed in 1650, and then London in 1652. |
