Following are some of your specific duties in the RainForest:

  • Respond in a timely manner to residents who have questions, or need help.
  • As soon as you receive your block assignments, make an initial contact with your residents to let them know who you are, and how best to contact you. Tell them about the GeoPlus & GeoGuide Banner Exchange programs. Always be friendly, courteous, and helpful. If you cannot find an email address for a resident at their RF website, go to the Web Monitor E-mail Generator.
  • Set an example for homesteaders by maintaining a showcase website with a prominent RainForest theme.
  • Monitor block assignments, and keep GeoCities informed of violations, either by contacting the RainForest liaisons, or GeoCities Alert.
  • Contribute to the growth and betterment of the RainForest Community by participating in various Team Projects.
  • Act as a liaison between residents and GeoCities when called upon.
  • Vote on community issues, the election of new CLs, and participate in CL activities via email and the RainForest Forum. Voting is the method in which we handle roll call in the RF, so when you miss votes, you miss role call. See the RF CL guidelines for more information about missing votes. Also, if you are going to be offline for an extended period of time, (3 days or longer), contact the liaisons and let them know.
  • Devote the time necessary to carry out the duties of being a RainForest CL.
  • OPTIONAL: Monitor neighborhood chat rooms, promote the RF Forums, and contribute some time in Help Chat.
  • OPTIONAL: Welcome any new residents who have moved in to your block assignments

Your next step is to fill out the Expertise Form which identifies your level of computer expertise. This information is published on our Expertise page here at the Community Website for the benefit of residents who are in need of assistance.

Other Important Information

  • Remember, when you come across a MAJOR content violation, DO NOT contact the homesteader. You should immediately contact the liaison who oversees that particular burb so they can suspend the site with the liaison tool, or contact alert.

  •
  • Maintain a list of sites with minor violations, or NMIY (not moved in yet) sites, and turn them in to alert at least once per month.  Please do not submit NMIY sites to Alert more than once.  You should also provide a copy of your list to that hood's liaison.

  •
  • If the page has only a small infraction, you should email the homesteader, and use a helpful, neighborly approach to remind him/her about the infraction. Remember to always remain positive, complimentary, and courteous. If you can't find an email address for a homesteader, go to the Web Monitor Email Generator.

  •
  • If a homesteader inquires about our featured page programs, you can direct them to the Top of the RainForest pages at our Community Website, and also brief them on the Best Of Geocities program, and the Outta Site Awards.

  •
  • If a homesteader is interested in becoming a community leader, direct them to the Community Leader Application form.

  •
  • CL applications and policy issues are voted on at the Voting Booth. You should have received the necessary passwords in your welcome letter from one of the liaisons.

  •
  • Each CL will be given block assignments by one of the RF liaisons. These assignments are subject to change as our community grows, and the suburbs expand. Our goal is to maintain permanent block assignments consisting of 300 residents per CL, but this may vary from time to time.

  •
  • Do not allow homesteaders to give you their passwords EVER. It is important for them to understand that no one from Geocities will ever ask them for their password, and if someone does, it should immediately raise a warning flag.

POLICY ISSUES & VOTING PROCEDURES

Current policies and voting procedures can be found at the RF CL Guidelines page.

You will probably have other questions along the way, and we encourage you to write to your mentor, or to one of the liaisons. We also encourage you to start a dialogue with the other CLs, and look forward to your active participation as a member of a Project Team.
