UK and Global Environment Information
Here is a very useful page of information and links to various organisations which deal with the environment in the UK and globally. You will be able to extract a lot of good information, and find very useful contacts, hopefully for all areas of environmental work.
I have split the links and information up into a number of sections, I hope these prove useful in your searches for information. Any comments or other sites to add please do contact me.
UK Regulators and Government Bodies
Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) | The Environmental
Regulator for Scotland. A good first stop for environmental issues north of the border. |
The Environment Agency (EA) | The environmental regulator for England and Wales. |
Environment & Heritage Service Northern Ireland (EHS) | As above but for Northern Ireland. Also deals with natural heritage issues. |
Dept. of Environment, Rural Affairs and Agriculture (DEFRA) | Government Department which includes Environment issues. Very detailed on some issues. New site due to Govt reshuffle. |
Dept. of Transport, Local Government and Regions (DTLR) | Government Department which deals with transport issues. |
The Scottish Executive | The devolved Scottish Parliment deals with the environment. |
Scottish Natural Heritage | Dealing with natural heritage issues, in Scotland. |
The Forestry Commision | If it's Forestry issues, these are the folk you're after. |
Environmental Initiatives
Are you doing you're bit? | Government campaign dealing with the small changes we can all make that can make a real difference. Very useful advice. |
Scottish Oilcare campaign | Raising awareness of oil pollution problems and how we can avoid them. Guidance for disposal of oil. |
Yellow Fish | The yellow fish campaign designed for youngsters, thinking about disposal of chemicals and stuff down drains, which can then go straight into a river and kill the fish. Children can actively go and mark the drains. Good stuff. |
Power Shift | An Energy Saving Trust programme to help establish a sustainable market for alternative, clean fuel vehicles in the UK. |
Scottish Energy efficiency office. | Mainly aimed at businesses trying to improve energy efficiency. Good site on energy efficiency though. |
Water Authorities
North of Scotland Water | Water Authority for North of Scotland |
East of Scotland Water | Same but for the East |
West of Scotland Water | And again but for the West of Scotland |
Water UK | Water UK is the representative organisation which brings together all of the UK's water and wastewater utilities. Good stuff. |
Air Issues
Atmosphere, Climate & Environment (ACE) | Information programme to give an unbiased look at effects of and controls on air pollution and climate change |
Nuclear and Radiation Issues
United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) | Body which deals with the environmental clearup of the nuclear waste sites in the UK. |
British Energy | The Nuclear Power station company. Has some highly detailed areas on the site. |
National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) | Protecting the nation from Radiation. A bit too technical though. |
Sustainable Transport
Transport 2000 | Nationwide sustainable transport organisation with many useful links |
Transform Scotland | A Scottish sustainable transport site |
Wildlife
Scottish Wildlife Trust | Scottish wildlife site, with good links and detail. |
World Wildlife Fund | The famous global organisation |

Greenpeace | The international site from well know global organisation |
Econet | Collection of many different environmental sites |
Sierra Club | Famous conservationist group in America |
