Watership Down by Richard Adams - Watership Down is the tale of a group of rabbits who leave their home warren under the advice of a small, visionary rabbit named Fiver. Their journey into far lands and the dangers they encounter makes this book a very captivating and imaginative tale.
Tales
From Watership Down by Richard Adams - Tales from Watership
Down follows the aftermath of the climactic ending of Watership Down, and
includes the rabbits' retelling of various myths associated with their
rabbit-hood, plus some new twists and developments.
Memory
and Dream by Charles DeLint - A thrilling tale of fantastical
paintings come to life.
Lord
of the Flies by William Golding - The story of a group of
English schoolboys plane-wrecked on a deserted island. At first,
they all put in a cooperative effort, but soon there are disagreements
and some things go horribly wrong...
The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis - A delightful childhood fantasy tale, comprising the creation of Narnia, the adventures of children of our world into the fantasy world of Narnia, and the stories of happenings in Narnia. The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven books. These include the following titles. (Descriptions were taken from reviews at Amazon.com)
The
Magician's Nephew - Imagine being flung to different worlds
as quickly as you please by holding a certain yellow ring and returning
via a green one. What fun! Unless the world you're visiting contains an
evil ruler bent on total conquest. Follow Digory and Polly as they
blunder upon the evil empress, Jadis, then discover the newborn Narnia
trying to return her to her world.
The
Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - They opened a door and
entered a world--Narnia--the land beyond the wardrobe, the secret country
known only to Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. Lucy is the first to stumble
through the back of the enormous wardrobe in the professor's mysterious
old country house, discovering the magic world beyond. At first, no one believes
her. But soon Edmund, Peter, and Susan discover the magic and meet Aslan,
the Great Lion, for themselves. And in the blink of an eye, they are changed
forever.
The
Horse and His Boy - The Horse and His Boy tells the story of
a young boy named Shasta with a mysterious past, his escape from a life
of slavery, and the talking horse who launches the adventure. As Shasta
and Bree join forces, they find themselves escaping with a runaway princess
and her talking horse, being pitted against a mad prince, and coming face
to face with a terrifying lion.
Prince
Caspian - Narnia has been at peace since Peter, Susan, Lucy
and Edmund helped rid the kingdom of the evil White Witch. But the Sons
of Adam and the Daughters of Eve have returned to their own world and a
dark presence now rules this once harmonious land. Wicked King Miraz
has imposed a pernicious new order of persecution and imprisonment, but
the King's nephew and rightful heir, young Prince Caspian, realizing the
evil of his uncle's regime, vows to revive Narnia's glorious past. Fearing
for his life, he is forced to flee and calls on the four children, the
magic of the mighty lion Aslan, and an army of fauns, dwarfs and woodland
spirits to help him in his seemingly impossible task.
The
Voyage of the Dawn Treader - In the enchanted land of Narnia,
Edmund and Lucy join King Caspian on a sworn mission to find the seven
lost Lords of Narnia. So begins a perilous new quest that takes them to
the farthest edge of the Eastern world on board the mighty Dawn Treader.
Sailing uncharted seas, the old friends must survive a terrible storm,
encounters with sea serpents, dragons, and invisible enemies to reach lands
where magicians weave mysterious spells and nightmares come true. They
need every ounce of courage and the help of the great lion Aslan to triumph
in their most hazardous adventure of all.
The
Silver Chair - King Caspian has grown old and sad in the ten
years since the disappearance of his only son. With time running
out, Jill and Eustace embark on a perilous quest to find the Prince and bring back tranquility to the magical land of Narnia. Journeying
to the wild lands of the north, the friends and their companion Puddleglum
battle mighty storms and encounter a race of giants who would like nothing better than a tasty snack--of human children! Searching deep underground
in the grim land of the Earthmen, they encounter the wicked Green Lady
who has evil plans to overthrow King Caspian and become Queen of Narnia.
The
Last Battle - Many Narnian years have passed since Eustace
and Jill helped ensure the Royal line. But when they are jerked back
violently into this strangest of lands they find the present King in danger
and Narnia facing its darkest hour. With Eustace and Jill at his side,
the King, the noble unicorn Jewel, and a few remaining loyal subjects must
stand fast against the powers of evil and darkness and fight the Last Battle
to decide the future of this once glorious kingdom.
