A Farewell Scene
The play has ended for winter
The cast is nowhere to be found
The people have left, southward bound
To warm places and old faces.
A lone seagull flies through the air
Agains't a backdrop painted blue.
No puffy white clouds in this sky
Only the sun slowly setting,
Behind the autumn colored trees.
Humming a sad song in the breeze,
With bells singing harmony
A tune heard only in the fall.
A final sailboat heads for home,
Leaving the cold ocean water
To the playing whales and dolphins.
I stand here watching the sunset
Thinking how lucky I am
To watch this picture turn golden,
Before fading slowly away
Letting the darkness take over.
A final wave good-bye from me,
As I leave this place I call home.
The curtain falls.
