Did some general updates around the page, including the CDs Etc. section to mark the release of Starling's new CD, Sustainer. Look for it coming soon to a store near you.

Other news,... one of Starling's songs, "Earnest" (apparently beating out a Foo Fighters song for the coveted spot), can be heard in a scene in the movie "Ready to Rumble". Also, don't forget to buy Jim Bryson's CD which is out now and selling fast.

And last: tell your family, tell your friends, tell your neighbours, tell the world: Starling is about to take over the universe!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahah!

FYI: Jim Bryson made a brief in-studio appearance on CBC Radio's Heartland today, promoting his new CD and his gig in Toronto tonight as part of Canadian Music Week. Here's an excerpt from the show:
CBC: You call the group "The Occasionals". That reflects the basis on which you get together?
JB: That definitely reflects the basis on which this group has been organized.
CBC: Just about everybody in The Occasionals is a member of at least one other group... Ian LeFeuvre and Peter Von Althen play with a group, Starling, and they've got some big record deal with them, about to release a CD.
JB: They sure do. April 18th they're gonna put their record out worldwide, apparently.

Hmm. Ok, it's been a while since I've updated anything. As you likely know, much has happened since last summer: a new bassist has joined Starling; they're gonna be releasing a new CD soon (April?); Danny has released his 3rd full-length solo album, "Fibsville". Refer to Cin and Mellie's site for all the details. I have a computer again so I may start updating this site a bit more frequently.

Monday June 7th 1999

Part 1 of the Rogers Community 22 special presention of "I've Never Been to Ottawa" (from the Tulip Festival) aired last night from 8pm to 9:30pm. If you missed it, don't worry: The bands featured were King Kung, Everender, and Furnace Face. Part 2 (which I think will air next Sunday) is the one you don't want to miss -- Starling and Punchbuggy will be featured on that one.

Wednesday May 26th 1999

No word yet on when Starling's appearance on Rogers and the CBC will air, but Danny has informed me that the band will be on Much Music sometime on June 10th.

Haven't had much time lately to work on the page. Check out Cin and Mellie's news section for stuff that's been happening in the last few months. (They treated me to a sneak peak at the new version of their page and it looks fantastic! Look for it in its entirety coming soon.)

Starling played at the Tulip Festival May 17th. They sounded pretty good -- look for the show to air sometime soon on Rogers and CBC. (Dates and times TBA.) Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that the Tulip Festival performance was part of an evening starring Ottawa bands that are featured on the new CD, "I've Never Been to Ottawa".

There hasn't been too much to report lately. Apparently Ian and Peter have been off touring in Europe (Ian with Lynn Miles and Peter with The Skydiggers). But there are a few new show dates for both Starling and Danny Michel.

Well, which do you want first, the good news or the bad? The bad news -- the terrible news -- is that Jon has apparently left the group. The good news is, Danny Michel has joined Starling. ciN posted the following on the Starling mailing list:

'DANNY MICHEL CONCERT UPDATE Hello all! Danny here. I have recently moved to Ottawa & become a member of a great band Starling, a "Pop Rock Trio". These are the boys you might have seen playing with me as MY band (The Wedding Band). We are now are 2 bands in one.Its a little complicated. For the record, I will NOT be giving up my own thing. I will continue to play & release records as my self, except now I'll just be do both. I wont be in the KW area much for some time but me & The Wedding Band will be at The Reverb Room this Wednesday, the 26th.
