Chapter 8

“Have you guys seen Brian?” Sahar asked Howie, Kevin, and AJ.

“Nope,” Howie replied. Turning back to AJ, he said, “ I don’t owe you anything. Amanda almost killed him.”

“The bet was that Brian would kiss her and he did. You owe me 5 bucks,” AJ pointed out.

“He’s right, Howie,” Kevin said taking AJ’s side.

Sahar left the guys to their argument and went to find Brian. She saw him standing at the edge of the lake, where Amanda had left him. Brian heard someone walking towards him, thinking it was Amanda, he said looking at the water, “Look, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to kiss you.”

“Brian,” Sahar smiled. “It’s me, not Amanda.”

Brian turned around. “Oh, hi.”

“Come on Brian we need to talk,” she said motioning Brian to follow her to the bench. She sat down and Brian sat next to her. Sahar could tell that he was really hurt just by the look on his face.

“You know, your best friend is one messed up girl,” he said.

Sahar smiled and gently said, “No, she isn’t. She’s just confused.”

“I just don’t understand why she hates me.”

“She doesn’t hate you.”

“Yeah, yeah, I over heard her talking to Nick. She was just jealous that Nick found a new friend.” Sahar laughed. “What’s so funny?”

“That’s not why she treats so bad,” Sahar said. “That’s why she might like to think she does, but that isn't the reason.”

“Then what is?”

Sahar took a deep breath. She wasn’t sure if she should tell Brian or not. I guess I should, she thought to herself. “Amanda doesn’t like it when she isn’t in control.”

“You’re telling me,” Brian interrupted.

“I’m not talking about that kind of control. I mean in control of herself. And when she’s around you, she isn’t in control of herself.”

“What do you mean?”

“Are all you guys so dense?” Sahar laughed. “Look, you need to talk to Amanda. I can’t tell you anymore. It isn’t my place to tell you.”

“I already tried talking to her.”

“No you didn’t. You kissed her.”

“You knew?”

“Yeah, Nick and I saw it from his room.”

Brian smiled. “What were you and Nick doing in his room?”

“Talking,” Sahar smiled. Amanda and Nick walked up to them. “Brian, can I talk to you?” Amanda asked.

“Yeah, sure,” he replied.

“Come on Nick,” Sahar said. “Let’s go inside.”

“Why?” Nick asked as Sahar took a hold of his hand and dragged him towards his house.

“Because they need to talk without you interfering.”

“I don’t interfere,” Nick pouted.

“You look so cute when you do that,” Sahar smiled.

“I know.”
