Chapter 2

THREE WEEKS LATER…

“So, are you going to come back o Tampa with me?” Nick asked Jasmine. The two had spent almost everyday for the past three weeks together. Nick had finally decided it was time to tell her.

“I don’t know,” Jasmine smiled.

“Come on,” Nick begged. “I have an extra room in my house. You can decorate for yourself and everything. Your parents are down there.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Jazz,” Nick said looking at her. The two were sitting in a bench facing the ocean.

“Huh?”

Nick took a breath of air. “Jasmine, I love you.” This took Jasmine by surprise, she just turned her head and looked at him. “I love you so much that it hurts when I’m not with.”

“Nick,” Jasmine said looking down at the floor.

“Just tell me you love me too,” Nick pleaded.

“Nick, don’t do this.” Nick looked at Jasmine. He was hurt. “Nicky, you don’t know what you are getting yourself into.”

“What do you mean? All I know is that I love you. I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you. You had just moved to Tampa and I thought you were the prettiest girl in school. The guys got me to go talk to you and everything came out wrong. And you slapped me.”

“Nick,” Jasmine repeated.

“Just tell me- I can take it.”

“Well,” Jasmine sat up straight. Nick knew there was something wrong by the expression on her face. “I didn’t tell you the whole story of way Jack left me.”

“Jazz, I don’t care.”

“Nick- listen. He left because he wasn’t ready to be,” Jasmine paused. She looked at Nick. “a father.”

“Father?” Nick repeated looking at Jasmine blankly.

“I’m pregnant.”

Nick looked more hurt than before. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I was afraid you’d leave.”

“Why would you think something like?” Nick got up. Jasmine started crying.

“I don’t know. Nick, if it means anything- I love you too,” she cried. She thought that Nick was leaving.

“When are you due?”

“In four months.”

“Well, then we don’t have much time,” Nick smiled.

“What do you mean?” Jasmine asked.

“Will you let me help you?” Nick said softly.

“What?” Jasmine looked confused. Two minutes ago she was sure that he was leaving.

“Jack was a bum. Let me help you with the baby. Come back with me to Tampa. I have an extra room. The guys can help me fix it up as a baby’s room. You can’t live here alone away from your parents and everything.” Jasmine smiled. Her Nick was coming through for her again. “What do you say? Come live with me. I have a big house. My parents live across the lake and yours live right now the street.”

“Thank you, Nick,” Jasmine said tears rolling down her face.

“Why are you crying?”

“Because I’m happy. I’m getting everything I want the man- I love and a baby.”
