Chapter 3

TWO MONTHS LATER…

Jasmine was painting the baby’s room. Her other best-friend, Spring, was helping her. Jasmine had been living with Nick for two months now. She was showing now since she was six months pregnant. Jasmine and Spring were talking- mostly about Spring’s boyfriend- Brian.

“Thank you so much, Jazz,” Spring smiled as she put another coat of light blue on.

“Why?” Jasmine asked brushing her hair out of her face.

“Because you and Nick introduced me to Brian,” Spring trailed off. Jasmine looked at Spring. She knew were Spring was heading with the conversation. “You and Nick, what would you call that?”

Jasmine looked at Spring. That’s a good question, Jasmine thought to herself. “I don’t know. My best-friend.”

“Jasmine, this living arrangement is fine right now, but what when the baby comes.” Spring stopped again. She wasn’t sure if she should get into this conversation.

“Look, Spring,” Jasmine said. “What am I suppose to do? Yes, I love Nick with all my heart. He means the world to me. I don’t know where I would be if he wasn’t here to help me.”

“Jasmine, that isn’t what I meant. Are you going to tell the baby the truth about his father?”

“I haven’t decided yet,” Jasmine said. “ I want to ask Nick to be the baby’s father.”

“Oh,” Spring. “This kid is going to have an interesting life. His mother and father aren’t married. In fact, they don’t even sleep in the same room, let alone sleep together. They act like a married a couple, but they aren’t even dating.”

“Spring, I already told you, my relationship with Nicky is complicated.”

“Can I ask you a question:?” Jasmine nodded. “Would you guys be the same way if there wasn’t a baby?”

Jasmine looked down for a second. “I don’t know.”

“Know what?” Nick asked walking into the room. “It’s coming along nicely,” Nick smiled looking around. Nick and Jasmine had decided that instead of a traditional pink or blue wall that they were going to paint a scenery type of thing. Jasmine was supposed to paint the background, which she was doing now. Since Nick was going to draw the Pooh characters in the room, Jasmine painted the top half of the room blue and the bottom half green.

“Oh nothing,” Jasmine smiled. “What ya doing home so early?” She looked at her watch it was only two p.m.

“Oh, Howie got lost and never showed at the studio, so we decided to postpone till tomorrow,” Nick laughed.

“So, is Bri home?” Spring asked. Nick nodded. “Well, I gotta go. Bye guys. Jazz ask,” she ordered before she walked downstairs.

“Ask what?” Nick eyed Jasmine mischievously. “Well, I have a really important question to ask you,” Jasmine said putting the paintbrush down.

“Go ahead,” Nick leaned on the table.

“Well, I was wondering if you would be the baby’s father,” Jasmine smiled.

Nick couldn’t help but smiling. “Yes, of course, Jazz.”

“Thank you so much.”

“No, Jazz,” Nick said pulling her towards him. “Thank you.” He kissed her. “Actually, I have something to ask you,” he said resting his forehead on hers.

“What?”

“Well, you know that I’m not really good with words, so instead of trying to make this sound all romantic and everything –I’m going to ask you straight.” Jasmine gave him a weird eye. “I want you to stay here forever.” He moved a lock a brown hair out of her face.

“Nick, what are you saying?”

“Jasmine, I want to make a life together. Me, you, and the baby. Will you marry me?”

“Yes, yes, I will,” she beamed. She paused for a second. “Nick, would you be asking me to marry you if there wasn’t a baby.”

Nick bent down and kissed her. “I love you so much,” he said. “Baby or no baby.” He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a box and gave it to Jasmine. Inside was a gold dolphin ring. The dolphin was holding a diamond in its mouth. He took the ring and placed it on her hand. “I love you. I want to be the prefect husband for you and the prefect father for our baby,” he laughed.

“What’s so funny?”

“You look beautiful with green paint on your face,” he joked as he kissed her again.

“Aww,” Jasmine jumped.

“What’s wrong?” Nick said pulling away from the kiss.

“The baby just kicked,” she smiled taking Nick’s hand and placing it on her belly. The baby kicked again.

“You have made me the happiest man ever,” Nick said. “Let’s go tell B-rok..”

“OK, I’ll go change.”

“Why you look perfect?”

Jasmine blushed. “There is paint all over me. And my hair…”

Nick interrupted her with another kiss. “You look prefect, let’s go.”

Brian opened the door. He saw that his two friends were holding hands. “Come in. What brings you two here?”

“Brian, did we interrupt something?” Nick smiled. Brian’s hair was all tousled. Jasmine laughed. Brian led the two to the living room Spring where was sitting on the couch straighten herself.

“we have a question for you,” Nick started. He looked at Jasmine.

“Spring, will you be my maid of honor?”

“WHAT?!?!?” Spring yelled in excitement. “YES!”

“hey, I thought I was supposed to be the first one to get married,” Brian joked after he agreed to be Nick’s best man.
