Mission of the Triangle Knights Basketball Academy

The objectives of the academy are to organize and administer a highly competitive and instructional "after-season" basketball program for girls ages 11 to 18; to field competitive girls basketball teams in each age level of competition in local, state and national basketball tournaments sponsored by one or more national basketball organizations; to provide an environment for each player to develop and to maximize her individual basketball skills; to develop high school players for local schools; to provide a forum for qualified players to display their abilities to college scouts for various national tournaments in order to compete for basketball athletic scholarships; and to develop the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork. The program includes tournaments, many other games, coaching, clinics, uniforms, and some one-on-one instruction over a four or five month period. The girls who played with us last year improved significantly, and they are doing very well this winter on their school teams.

Program Overview

We expect to have teams for 11 & Under thru 18 & Under. At some age divisions we may have a developmental team which may play in the YBOA program or in a recreational league. Very talented players may play on more than one team within our club. Usually there will be two or three activities (practices or games) a week and players are expected to be committed to the program. If you miss your practice, you may attend another team's practice. During the week, practices will be in the evening after 6:00 p.m. We do try to make our schedule work with girls, but this program is more competitive than a church or recreation program and is not suited for everyone. A strong interest in basketball is very important. Running and other conditioning activities are a part of each practice. If your child attends on a regular basis, they will greatly improve.

Player Placement

The program is NOT for recreation purposes. It is designed for girls that desire to play competitive basketball. The number of players selected for teams from the tryouts is determined by available coaches and the number of teams at each age level. We may not be able to accommodate all players. When there are two teams at an age level, one will be more competitive than the other.

Coaches

The club seeks coaches who have the ability to teach basketball at a highly competitive level and have the temperament to deal with referees and fellow coaches. The coach must be able to develop the individual skills of players, be committed to the ideals of sportsmanship, have high standards of personal character and integrity and have the time and resources to commit to the program. All of our head coaches have significant coaching experience either in AAU or coaching high school basketball. At this time, we are looking for good assistant coaches. Assistant coaches will frequently be parents, but we prefer to have people who already have been involved in AAU or have other significant coaching experience.
