Brightsand Regional Park - This is a beautiful park about 3 km. from the cabin. A gorgeous sandy beach (approximately 6 km. long) makes for a good walk for the family. Swimming lessons are available, usually during the first two weeks of July. Amenities at the Regional Park includes mini-golf, good hiking trails, a store, Laundromat, playground, and a pond stocked with trout. You will also find a 9-hole sand green golf course that has an excellent layout but not everyone is keen on the putting service. Children play this course regularly without any problems. A park pass is included with your rental.

140 ft of Lakefront

Water Sports - Brightsand is a beautiful, clean lake. On clear days you are able to see the down to the bottom even in 15 - 20 feet of water and deeper. There are very few weeds, which makes it great for swimmers and water skiers. A new pier will be built for the 2000 season. 140 feet of sandy beach is in front of the cabin. The bottom of the lake is a combination of sand and rock. The sand on the bottom comes in long strips so getting out is not a problem. The water is great! Refreshing and clean! . A boat ramp is available at the regional park. Some renters who are skiing head down to what we call "Black Beach" about 2 km away where the whole area is totally sand and perfect for picking up and dropping off children. Of course, you can ski from the cabin without any problem. The lake is very quiet so you may find that you might not see another boat when you are out on the lake. Honest!

Previous visitors have windsurfed, sailed, and kayaked. Bring your equipment and enjoy!

Great Water-skiing!

Another great day at Brightsand!

24 Sq. Miles of Water- Usually to Yourself!

Fishing - If you're looking for the fishing vacation, don't come to Brightsand Lake. There are enough fish to keep the children interested (pike in the lake, trout in the pond at the regional park), however, too few weeds result in only satisfactory fishing. On a calm evening, you will notice fish jumping directly in front of the cabin so do you don't have to go too far to see them. Catching them is another story and if you do, they will likely be small pike. Many monsters have been caught (up to 35 pounds) both during the summer and winter however not by me.

There are good fishing lakes within 45 minutes of the cabin. Loon Lake and Turtle Lake are known for better fishing and may better suit your rental needs if you are a real keen angler.

Golf - A great new 9-hole golf course was built in St. Walburg (25 minutes) and opened in 1999. A driving range and clubhouse are available for your use. Mervyn (30 minutes) also has a 9-hole course and sports a new clubhouse for the 2000 year. Greens at Mervyn are consistently excellent and the course is viewed as a "local treasure". Loon Lake (45 minutes) has a challenging 9-hole course and is definitely worth the drive, but if you are playing 18 it will probably end up as a full day trip. Other golf courses further away include an 18-hole course in the Battleford Provincial Park and Lloydminister's gem which is considered to be one of the best in Saskatchewan. Just to bash the ball around, don't forget about the sand green course at the regional park.

Beautiful Golf Courses Minutes Away

Hiking - There is great hiking around the area. You can simply head down to the regional park and take one of their trails and end up back where you started. If you want something else, there is a cleared trail that was developed primarily for cross-country skiing and that goes on for miles. You can pick up that walk just across from the subdivision. If you want to stay close to the lake put on your runners and just head down the beach. A walk down to the regional park from the cabin is approximately 5 km.

Touring - There are many historical sites in the area that relate to the Metis Rebellions (Louis Riel and his followers). Frenchman Butte and Fort Pitt are two examples of interesting sites. More information is available from the Saskatchewan Tourism site. If you are interested in art, a museum close to St. Walburg has been built to house Imhoff's work. This museum attracts many visitors every year particularly those interested in religious paintings.

Auctions - If you see a sign up for an auction in the St. Walburg or Turtleford area, give it a try. Attending one of these auctions is quite an experience and you won't believe what is being sold. As Kelly the auctioneer says after every purchase: "What A Buy!" Food and refreshments are usually available. An auction is definitely a community event.
