Frequently Asked Questions about BaK

A lot of people have been having a hard time trying to coax Windows 95 to run Betrayal at Krondor. The following are some tips that might help you.

• Check out your PC's memory using the "mem" command. For more on this click here.
• Free up memory by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and end the tasks for applications that you don't need.
• Create a shortcut to Krondor from your Desktop. This will allow Windows to manage the memory for you. To do this right-click anywhere on your desktop and select 'New', 'Shortcut' then look for Krondor.exe in your Krondor directory. Follow the instructions and click 'Finish'
• Don't load everything during the Windows 95 startup. If you're comfortable with Windows 95's startup menu click here.
• Boot Windows 95 in safe mode (it's possible to run BaK during safe mode but this is not recommended)
• Create a boot disk. For manually creating and editing a boot disk click here.
• Don't load the taskbar during bootup. The taskbar uses up a lot of your computer's memory. You can remove the taskbar from the StartUp folder in Windows 95 (this is what I did, now I can play BaK both in DOS and in Win 95 without having to make a boot disk or booting in safe mode).

I'm not sure on this one but I think the problem is probably due to the incorrect DOS version that the setup utility finds. To get around this problem you have to manualy create a boot disk

Why is it that my characters always get sick?

Always check the food that your characters carry. To do this, open your inventory and right-click on your rations. You will see a description of your rations, the amount, and the condition (spoiled or poisoned). If you're carrying spoiled or poisoned food, get rid of them.

Why does Owyn always die during combat?

Owyn is the weakest of your characters and the one with the lowest stats on melee. The problem is in the early chapters where Owyn lacks the skills for combat. To get around this problem, surround Owyn with your other characters so that he will get less hits (also check the Tips 'n Tricks section).

I already have the six Standard Kingdom armor that Lord Lyton wants but he does not accept them.

Lord Lyton only accepts armor that is in good repair (at least 85%). Also try to carry the armor on one character only.

I can't find Nalar's Rib! Where is it?

Many gamers have been having a hard time looking for Nalar's Rib in Chapter 4. To help you out see the map below.

Where can you find the waterfalls in Chapter 3?

The waterfalls is somewhere between Prank's Stone and Cavall Keep. If your going North from Prank's Stone to Cavall Keep, watch for the side road to your left. This road leads to the waterfalls. See the map below.
