What can I say? Band is my life.
July 1998 Since I'm graduating this year, playing at the graduation - my own graduation - was my last time with the Auburn Drive High School Band.
March 1998 We're getting ready for Regional Musicfest in a few weeks... as well as our annual musical - this year, Wizard of Oz. (here's the cover of the program :) A nice change from Man of la Mancha and Oliver. See below for info about Truro Musicfest last week.
December 1997 Sadly, it's been decided that we'll be going to New York City instead of England for the Fine Arts Trip this year (I was more than a bit against it, of course), because of - well, money. England is expensive. And while I have no real complaints about going to New York, it's just that we were Supposed to go to England and I've never been to Europe before.
September 1997 We're all looking forward to our upcoming fine arts (mostly band, but also art and drama) trip to... England!!
I think it's going to be a blast. We've started working on The Inferno (from the "Divine Comedy") by Robert W. Smith and the next movement, The Ascension. Both very cool pieces. Also, as a warm-up and for our school's Remembrance Day (Nov. 14) Ceremony, we're playing Sine Nomine by none other than Ralph Vaughan Williams. We're also getting Elegy for a Young American soon. I've never heard it, but it's supposed to be a great piece.
We're also taking along some small ensembles. So far, I know we have a brass quintet and a flute ensemble. Hopefully we can get a woodwind quintet together. *crossing fingers, and it's hard to type that way*
May 22-24 was the annual school musical - Man of la Mancha (based on the novel Don Quixote). Congratulations everyone, we did a great job! I would like to extend special congratulations to the PIT BAND who braved
the extremely stuffy and loud pit for the hours upon hours of practice... and they didn't even tear down the scrim for us :(
June 24 - we played at the graduation. Imagine playing Pomp and Circumstance 20 million times as all the grads walk past! Borrring!
Maritime Musicfest - our concert band received a Silver standard award. Pieces played: Century of Progress, A Canadian Folk Rhapsody, and Heroic Fanfare.
Maritime Musicfest - our Wind Ensemble (consisting of one instrument to each part) received a Gold standard award and were invited to compete at National Musicfest. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend. Pieces played: First Suite in E flat, On the Quarter Deck, and Rondo from Abdelazer.
At the subsystem concert on May, we were amazing! That's all I have to say, too bad you couldn't hear it yourself.
