CONTRATIEMPO's HISTORY

The group is created in Madrid in the year 1989 and since that very moment it has not stopped its professional activity, as well as its investigation work and the creation of a language of its own.

With its first show,"Sentimiento y Fiesta", it takes part of the network of theatres of Madrid and is presentented in several theatres of Italy (Bolone, Milan....), at the same time it enters into the plan of production subsidizes of Madrid.

It presents its shows "Por Naturaleza" and "Pa Cuenca" in the "Certamen de Coreografía y Danza Española y Flamenco", that takes place in the Albéniz theatre of Madrid, getting with the later the Jury's Special Mention.

The company participates in 1994 Autumn's Festival in Madrid in the space "Dance in the Metro", prosopal in which, for the first time, CONTRATIEMPO participates with his personal view of Flamenco. The company also participates in "A new audience for the dance" with its show "Jugando con Pa Cuenca", with which it starts an investigation of the world of the children's theatre

The year 1995 the company concentrates in the creation of a new show "Cuéntamelo como un cuento", joined by musicians, theatre director, scenographers, designhers.. that put together their imagination for this project. The production is subsidised by the Culture Ministry (INAEM) and by Madrid's Community.

The company is invited to:

The Romea theatre in Murcia, taking part of Dance's International Day.
The 7th Dance Show of Fuenlabrada (Madrid).
Dance and Theatre festival for schoolchildren in Miranda de Ebro (Burgos).
Theatres of Madrid's (el Escorial, Pinto, Torrelodones, San Martín de la Vega, Las Rozas...).
Festival "Dance in Madrid" ("Madrid en Danza") in the Madrid's French Institute's de theatre.
The Royal Conservatoire of Madrid representing "Jugando con Pa Cuenca", in this festival.
It also joins flamenco latest trends, participating in the cile "Another look over Flamenco" ("Otra mirada sobre el Flamenco") in Madrid's sala Pradillo de Madrid, whose proposal is no other than to help flamenco art approach other alternative currents.
(July 1997) Participates in the "Feria de Teatro en el Sur" (Palma del Río, Córdoba) where they are given the prize as best show of Madrid's Community.
(October 1997) Participates in Cadiz's Iberoamerican Theatre Festival (FIT Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Cádiz).

CONTRATIEMPO is made up of four women, who are at the same time creators and performers and who have a rich professional experience and thorough formation. These creators concentrate their work in the investigation and creation of a new languaje in spanish dance. Their greatest achievement is the fusion of Flamenco with theare, pantomime and comedy. They are pioneers in the creation of flamenco comedy shows. Their creations manage to get throught ot all kind of audience, both knowledgeable and profane, both adult and children, both purist and vanguardist.... agreeing all on the quality, originality and particularity of their shows.

CONTRATIEMPO offers these shows, created through developed lines of work:

"SENTIMIENTO Y FIESTA". The pure and traditional Flamenco from the "jondo" to the "fiesta".
"A CONTRATIEMPO". Three independent creations, conceived to get throught to all kind of audience: público:"Cuéntamelo como un cuento", "Por Naturaleza" y "Pa Cuenca".
"JUGANDO CON PA CUENCA", A show with didactic intention targeted on kids.

At the same time, the company has an intense and constant work, developing new productions, laboratories with dancers and coreographers, courses with future dancers and a exhaustive theatral and dancing formation that they put as tools for their imagination.
