To Swirl and Twirl in Circles

Well it's another day and still I'm waiting for the roof to be complete. Needs one more coat of paint and a little bit of sun (it's winter down under) and we should be happy. Alas the tradesmen have done damage to our recently (6months) painted eaves and porch area. The new paint is bubbling off due to their use of a high pressure water hose in our gutters, to get rid of cement they used for repointing and rebedding. So now I'm waiting for the company's painter to come and give me a quote to repair the damage. Mind you, the roofing company I went with was the most expensive qoute. The bastards had the cheek to tell us that we were underquoted for the job. I know this to be utter crap, because I had at least 5 other quotes to repair the roof and they all came in under $2000. We thought that by going with the most expensive (more than $2500, less than $3000) we would get a premium job (as they promised us). Like foundations to a house, the roof is the next most important part of the houses anatomy.

The company is so unprofessional, I say this from experience because:-

  • the salesman lied about what the company would do i.e. he said that they do 2 topcoats when infact they only do 1 coat of colour (we were costed for 2 coats of colour). He also said they take before and after photos of the roof, when the truth is that we were supposed to. etc...
  • I've had to call nearly every day for 4 weeks to find out why the tradesmen had not arrived on a sunny day to do the work.
  • I've had to take $60 worth of photos to illustrate their shoddy workmanship. They said that it was unnessecary to do this, as they would fix things if they thought it needed fixing. (LIKE I CAN REALLY TRUST THEIR WORD!!!) And that they would fix the damage to the eaves, without question (I'M SURE !!!)
  • Every time I rang to ask where the trademen were, I was told that they were at another job. This made me feel 2nd best, even though I was paying top dollar (by the way there was no structural fault, it just needed rebedding of 20 tiles and repointing, primer and topcoat paint). Previously thay just turned up on my doorstep, without any phonecall. They needed to use the electricity. How could I leave the house when I didn't know they were coming, and knowing they needed to use the electricity?
  • We were made to feel like we were trying to leech money from them. The formanager said that the longer he talked to us, the more we were trying to get out of him. Is this any way to talk to a customer? We just wanted them to leave our house in its original state before they left.

The list just goes on and on. It may seem boring to you, but it is sure frustrating and annoying when you get taken for a ride like that. I've called the Housing Industry and Master Builders Association (to which they are members of and anonymously asked them what I should do), Fair Traiding Board etc...Just so that I could get advice, and see what our rights are. Lucky for them I have not divulged their company name to any of these boards! I've had many different tradesmen in, from plumbers and electricians to painters etc... NEVER have we've had such trouble before. I don't want the hassle of taking them to Small Claims Tribunal, but for $10, they can settle the issue for us (of fixing up the damage they caused and for a shoddy job). Anyway, I'm tired of being upset.

It was my brother-in-law's B-day, so we are all going out for dinner tonight. I didn't sleep well last night, so I hope I don't get to bed late. By the way 'Amy' my horny cat is getting mated at the present time. Hopefully in 9 weeks there will be kittens to bless our lovely home...

Signing off till next time...Soosh
