Day 17th Wed. Oct.23rd:

Tatopani to Chitre 2316 m

This morning Pauline had decided to go with us the hard way by Ghorepani. It was a very difficult day. Ram said it would be steep and NOW I believe him. Pauline got very stressed and wished she had gone the easy way with the other guide but she made it just fine.

We walked most of the day with a group from Denmark. The man said he had done this trek 12 years ago and would never do it again. But here he was with his wife and son. He was having a rough time on the climb and Ram was teasing him about not being in shape. He was a very large man and he just picked Ram up, slung him over his shoulder and spun him around in jest. We all had a good laugh.

manplowingThe scenery was spectacular, lots of terraced fields again. They were burning the fields after the harvest of the rice crop, getting ready to plant wheat. Water buffalo being used for plowing these small terraced fields, using an old fashion plow. Like back in biblical days. Click small image to see more detail.

We stopped at Chitre 2316 m. for the night instead of going all the way to Ghorepani. We were very tired and the altitude was starting to bother me again during the last half hour of the climb.

Elena, the Danish group and a young Irish couple stopped also. Didn't even consider having a shower. Had some Raski and dinner. Played cards a bit with Ram and Hari, then to bed. Woke up in the night and thought I was home in my own bed. These beds are getting more comfortable all the time.
