Day 19 Friday October 25th: Hile to Pokhara
This morning after walking for about 4 hours we came to Birenthanti. Rained a little. This town is different from the towns higher up in the mountains because the highway comes just above it. Generally
dirtier. It seems the towns where roads come through take on a different character. One wonders if progress is really good for
the Nepalese.
After much haggling with the drivers we took a cab to Pokhara. [400 rs].
Switchback after switchback. A one hour drive. Thank goodness we
didn't take the bus. Booked into the Alisha Hotel in Damside, Pokhara. Had dinner with Ram and Hari, they are leaving in the
morning for Kathmandu. Pauline and I are thinking of going to the Chitwan National park in the Terai on the 27th. Some
misunderstanding with Ram about who pays for what.
Called home from a telephone shop on the main street, two rings and Winfield answered. Cost about $12.00 Cdn. Walked a
bit after dinner. Seems strange to hear cars and motorcycles again after 19 days in the mountains. Washed clothes.
