I am currently doing a research project regarding the film Grapes of Wrath (1940). With your personal insight perhaps you can shed light on why the film was made? Steinbeck uses great descriptions to desribe the Joads trip to California. What are the major changes in the film than in the book? And why was this done? As a result, how was the film recieved? Please respond as soon as possible. Thank you!-Erica

Can you place the following quote from the movie wall street as a soundbite on your website?

Here's the kid, calls me 59 days in a row says he wants to be a player. There ought to be a picture of you in the dictionary under persisitence kid. Alright Jerry were looking for negative toll here, no more than thirty, thirty five percent. Enough to block anyboby elses merger plans and find out from the insiders if the books are cooked. arron,

i'm only writing to say that i can't believe scarface came on 28 on your top 100 list. scarface might just be one of the worst gagnster films of all time. was "the untouchable" not as good? it was the same director, but "the untouchables" went into a much more deep character study (what are you prepared to do?), as opposed to scarface, where he's the same, no good s.o.b. the whole movie, and i didn't care about him. it was very disappointing, it being a brian depalma film. he starts off no good, he gets even worse, and i almost cheered when he died because he had it coming. watch the original with paul munie: it's definently worth your time. i usually agree with you, but i have to draw the line. by the way: where is "pulp fiction" on your list? jake b.

-Just saw "Million Dollar Baby". I give myself credit for being a tough critic. If I'm lucky enough to see one movie in the theater a year that I really like, I consider myself lucky.

I need to do some thinking, and maybe see it again, but I think it may be the best sports movie of all time. I also believe that when I fisnish my top #100, it will find itself comfortably in the top half.

Rarely is a screenplay that good melded with direction so fluid andacting so brilliant. The onclusion of this movie is as powerful as any punch.

You seen it yet?

On 2/2/05 none (n/a) submitted the following:

The best movie by far in the 90s is Scent of a Woman. Al Pacino creates a character that everybody wants to know. His character, every word that he says is poetry always meaning more than what is thought. The ballroom scene is one of the best scenes in all of movies. The way he talks to the young lady the way he reconizes her perfume,"acovistas du sol" and the way he dances with her is just magical. Al pacino should imortilized not by Scarface nor the Godfather but by Scent of a Woman.

Dear Mister Caldwell,

I am writing to you from Paris, France.

I am looking for a sound quote in "Grapes of wrath". I saw you have on your excellent "top 100 movie list" site the quote "I'll be all around in the dark".

Unfortunately the link to the wav file does not work.

Could you please send me by mail the attached file ?

I thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely yours.

Véronique

Hello Véronique...I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I will email you the sound bite today. (AC 10/21/04)

Hey Christmas ape...(WTF!). I was interested in the movie titled "Ikiru" (directed by Akira Kurosawa) that appeared on your list. Here is a plot summary I found on IMDB (AC 10/21/04):

"Kanji Watanabe is a longtime bureaucrat in a city office who, along with the rest of the office, spends his entire working life doing nothing. He learns he is dying of cancer and wants to find some meaning in his life. He finds himself unable to talk with his family, and spends a night on the town with a novelist, but that leaves him unfulfilled. He next spends time with a young woman from his office, but finally decides he can make a difference through his job... After Watanabe's death, co-workers at his funeral discuss his behavior over the last several months and debate why he suddenly became assertive in his job to promote a city park, and resolve to be more like Watanabe."

AFTER COMPARING YOUR POLLS, IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS YOU GUYS ARE OR WERE
CLOSE FRIENDS. SOME OF THE LESS OBVIOUS CHOICES FOUND ON BOTH SEEM TOO
COINCIDENTAL. YOU SHOULD PULL IN SOME FOLKS WHO DON'T AGREE WITH YOU TO GIVE YOUR SITE PERSPECTIVE. OTHERWISE YOU'RE JUST A COUPLE OF BUDDIES QUOTING MOVIES.

Hey Roger...if your referring to myself (Aaron) and Mark Caldwell, we are in fact brothers, and yes we share many similar opinions on movies. But how can you say we need to "pull in some folks who don't agree with you to give your site perspective"? That is the whole purpose of the site!! We currently have over 200 lists from critics and the general public. (AC 10/21/04)
